DS 5

Even the interior cabin of the DS 5 creates a strong individuality with its unique layout and impressive craftsmanship. It looks tech-laden and unique, and it doesn’t resemble or seeks inspiration from the cabin of any other car. The moment you sit on the driver’s seat, the DS 5 creates a wow impression with the four-spoke multi-functional flat-bottom steering wheel, behind which sits a three-part instrument console with a fully digital display.

The center console, which is slightly tilted towards the driver, has an impressive wraparound layout, which accommodates tapering down AC vents, a rather small touchscreen infotainment system, asymmetric positioning of dials for the audio system and AC.  The slightly bulging up center transmission tunnel houses the gear lever, drive mode selector, and fighter jet-inspired toggle-like buttons for various other functions.

For a hatchback, the DS 5 looks quite long and big and is one of the largest hatchbacks available globally. Not to mention that it is one of the most beautiful looking hatchbacks too, as the overall design of the DS 5 is one of the most futuristic and distinctive looking of the lot.

The front profile of the DS 5 manages to look fresh, with a sleek and wide hexagonal grille, which has rounded edges and is surrounded with a heavy dose of chrome. The chrome finish on the side edges of the grille merges well with the sweptback headlamps which are shaped like wings and incorporate full LED lighting with large C-shaped daytime running LEDs as well as LED projectors. The C-shaped black garnish for the small fog lamps on the front bumper looks unique too.

When you look at the DS 5 from the side, the hatchback manages to create a strong impression with its swooping chrome garnish, which flows all the way from the front edge of the headlamp all the way to the quarter glass adjacent to the A-pillar. There is further heavy-looking chrome garnish which is present at the bottom of the doors. The rounded roofline, large side windows, and door-mounted rearview mirrors further make the DS 5 look more dramatic.

At the rear too, the DS 5 doesn’t fail to impress, with broad inverted L-shaped LED tail lamps and a stubby boot design giving it a minimalist and clean appeal. The presence of dual rounded exhaust pipes as well as a large roof spoiler above makes it look sportier.

With a long wheelbase and relatively lower ground clearance, the DS 5 has got a sporty stance, which only gets a strong match with the stiffly sprung suspension as well as perfectly weighted steering setup to make sure maximum fun behind the wheel is possible. The seats are spacious enough for five adults, and the 468-litre of boot space can put even some sedans to shame.

The DS 5 gets its thrust from a superbly advanced 1.6-litre four-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine, which is paired to a 6-speed automatic gearbox. The engine in the DS 5 makes 165 PS of maximum power and 240 Nm of maximum torque output, which does make it one of the most powerful 1.6-litre engines currently available across the world.

The DS 5 is equipped with a decent setlist of safety features, which includes front, side, and curtain airbags, ABS with EBD, electronic stability program, traction control, front and reverse parking sensors, reverse camera, blind-spot monitoring system, and tire pressure monitoring system.

The DS 5 is one great looking car, which exudes top-class craftsmanship not only on the outside but in the way it has been laid out from the inside. The premium essence of the car is only doubled with the presence of a much powerful and refined engine, which makes it a strong performer behind the wheel as well.
