Toyota confirms official debut of 2020 Corolla this week in the US
KUALA LUMPUR: A teaser image of the Toyota Corolla has surfaced online that has an alert indicating it will be unwrapped on Thursday in the US. It is certain that the new 2020 North America-spec Toyota Corolla will officially debut on Thursday night (15th November) in California. Besides, the sedan will also premiere at the Guangzhou International Automobile Exhibition in China on the 16th of November. This means the vehicle will make its global appearance both in the US and China, simultaneously. In the present, Toyota offers the Corolla Altis in Malaysia.
The event is supposed to happen around 7 PM PST (Pacific Standard Time) in California, while the local time here in Malaysia would be 11 AM Friday morning. The teaser image showcases that the front end of the vehicle bears some resemblance with the Touring Sports wagon and Corolla Hatchback. Toyota already unmasked the hatchback model in the first half of 2018 and we know that the underpinning of both the sedan and hatchback is the same TNGA (Toyota New Generation Architecture) platform.
The upcoming new Corolla sedan apparently seems to be a lesser athletic version of the hatchback. With a flattened chin, the sedan version portrays a more conventional look. The bumper of the Corolla sedan looks differently designed than that of the hatchback. Corolla sedan features a sculpted grille bridging the DRLs. However, there is no room for the Toyota brand logo at the spot, thereby pushing the emblem one spot higher above the grille.
The rear portion of the vehicle has not been revealed yet. The front end also is not revealed much in detail. Further specifications and a complete view of the new model will be revealed this week.
The recently unveiled Corolla Hatchback draws its power from a new naturally-aspirated 2.0-litre Dynamic Force powertrain, producing a maximum power of 168 horses and generating a peak torque of 205 Nm. The motor comes paired to either a Direct Shift-CVT/ Dynamic-Shift CVT or a six-speed iMT (Intelligent Manual Transmission).
