Toyota GR Super Sports unveiled at the 24 Hours of Le Mans
KUALA LUMPUR: After teasing the hypercar concept last year, Toyota has showcased the hybrid GR Super Sports at the 24 Hours of Le Mans. With impressive capabilities and inspired from the LMP1 race car, it is expected that Toyota will replace it for an LMP1 class in future and debut at the endurance race in 2020.
The outrageous hypercar boasts a 2.4-litre V6 engine with two turbos and a hybrid system. The car is capable of churning out a staggering power of 999 PS. The hybrid system incorporated in the car is based on the Toyota TS050 LMP1 prototype.
The hypercar looks absolutely stunning from the outset. Its flamboyant character is perceived by large and pronounced wheel arches and air inlets which also makes it quite identical to the TS050. At the back, you’d notice a spoiler adding to its sporty look. Overall, the profile of the car is low just like a race-spec version. The sleek and sculpted GR Super Sport is definitely a head-turner and there is a high possibility of it undergoing production in the near future.
Underneath, the hypercar utilizes a monocoque chassis made up of carbon fibre. As far as suspension duties are concerned, they are taken care of by the double wishbones with inboard mounted shock absorbers at all the four ends.
With brand’s intention to make the hypercar a reality and available for general public, the prominent players of the market including the Ferraris, McLarens and the Porsches must gear themselves up for a healthy rivalry. The models from Aston Martin and Mercedes-Benz will only add to the competition once they are launched. So, it would be exciting to see how the market shapes up in future.
