All-new 2022 Yamaha TMAX & TMAX Tech MAX revealed

KUALA LUMPUR: One of Yamaha's best-selling maxi-scooters in the European market, the TMAX is updated for the 2022 model year.

2022 Yamaha TMAX and TMAX Tech MAX updates include a compact body, sportier style, and revised wheels and suspension. Let us discuss the updates in detail now, starting with design language -

The new TMAX showcases a new radical Supersport-inspired design, all thanks to a new aluminium frame along with sportier riding ergonomics that is contributed via a slightly aggressive position. The maxi-scooter will also get a slimmer waist and reshaped front end.

On the equipment upgrade front, the new TMAX gets a revamped adjustable screen with central air vents intakes. The latter will help minimise wind pressure. Further adding to its sportier stance are new dual LED headlights. Standard offerings now include the Bridgestone Battlax SC2.

What else? Yamaha's new maxi-scooter is lighter than before, thanks to the lighter Spin Forged 10-spoke wheels. These units minimise the front and rear inertia by 10 and 6 per cent, respectively.

Suspension duties on the 2022 TMAX are taken care of by a higher-spec 41 mm USD front fork and a new single-shock at the rear.

Other exciting updates include an all-new seven-inch full-colour TFT display with smartphone connectivity & Garmin maps. The new unit replaces the previously available LCD and analogue meter. Also part of the 220 kg weighing new TMAX specs kit is -

What powers the new TMAX?

No surprises here. Like before, the new TAX is powered by a two-cylinder DOHC mill pumping out a maximum power of 47.6 hp at 7,500 rpm along with a peak torque of 55.7 Nm at 5,250 rpm. The power is sent to the rear wheels via an automatic gearbox and belt drive.

The European-spec revised TMAX is offered in three attractive colour options, namely - Sword Grey, Extreme Yellow, and Icon Blue.

In Malaysia, the 2022 TMAX 560 retails for RM 72,888 and is offered in two hues - Pewter Grey and Tech Kamo. Unlike the new European-spec mode, the locally available model benefits from heated seats, electrically adjustable windshield, heated grips, backlit handlebar switches, cruise control, and adjustable rear suspension.
