2025 Yamaha YZF-R25 makes Malaysian debut - RM23k, new design and Assist & Slipper (A&S) clutch system

KUALA LUMPUR: Hong Leong Yamaha Motor (HLYM) has taken the wraps off the 2025 Yamaha YZF-R25 on the eve of the MotoGP Malaysia Grand Prix weekend, unveiling the refreshed sportbike in conjunction with a special MotoGP Rider Meet and Greet session.

The event saw participation from HLYM’s top management alongside riders from the Monster Energy Yamaha MotoGP and Prima Pramac Yamaha MotoGP teams, marking another high-profile appearance for Yamaha’s R-Series lineup in Malaysia.

Sharper design, race-derived Looks

The latest YZF-R25 brings a refreshed design inspired by Yamaha’s R-Series racing DNA, featuring a sharper and more aerodynamic silhouette.

The front fairing now extends further forward to accentuate speed, while contrasting colour panels help slim down the overall look. Twin-eyed position lights give the bike a more aggressive, track-inspired front fascia that mirrors its bigger R-Series siblings.

Beyond looks, the new R25 has been refined for daily usability. The compact, lightweight frame promises agile handling, while the redesigned seat and slimmer side panels improve rider comfort and foot reach.

Yamaha says these changes aim to deliver better control and confidence, whether in city traffic or spirited weekend rides.

Now with assist & slipper clutch

For 2025, the R25 gains the Assist & Slipper (A&S) clutch system – a first for the model. This feature reduces engine braking during hard downshifts and makes lever operation lighter, offering smoother control under aggressive deceleration.

Connected features via Y-Connect

The new model is also equipped with Yamaha’s Y-Connect app integration, allowing riders to pair their smartphones for real-time data and notifications.

The app displays information such as fuel consumption, maintenance reminders, call and message alerts, and even the last parked location.

Under the fairing remains the familiar 249cc liquid-cooled, DOHC twin-cylinder engine producing 26.4 kW at 12,000 rpm and 22.6 Nm at 10,000 rpm. Safety tech includes an anti-lock braking system (ABS) and LED turn signals as standard.

The 2025 Yamaha YZF-R25 is priced at RM23,098 (excluding insurance and registration) and is available at all authorised Yamaha dealers nationwide in two colours – Pearl Blu and Racing Blu.
