Yamaha Niken launched at £13,499 in the UK
KUALA LUMPUR: Yamaha Niken, a three-wheeled motorcycle has finally made its way to the United Kingdom. The bike was first showcased at the last year’s Tokyo Motor Show. It is based on the MT-07 and comes with the lean function which is the feature that makes it stand apart from rest of the three-wheelers and as a Leaning Multi Wheel (LMW).
The Yamaha Niken is powered by an 847cc water-cooled, in-line triple engine that churns out 116.5 PS of power at 10,000 rpm and 87.5 Nm of torque at 8,500 rpm, mated to a 6-speed gearbox. Power is transferred to the rear wheel via a chain drive.
The Niken get a slipper clutch and a traction control system in addition to a quickshifter for rapid gearshifting. The bike is equipped with a D-Mode which constitutes three modes that a rider can switch to according to riding preference. The bike’s cruise control can be used over 50 kmph from the fourth gear.
The leaning Yamaha gets two 15-inch wheels at the front and a 17-inch wheel at the rear. Suspension duties at the front are handled by a central hub connected to the two inverted forks on each wheel. Yamaha claims that the Niken’s LMW setup is potent to keep the bike stable when cornering regardless of the terrain type and road condition. Dimensionally, the Niken measures 2,150 mm long, 885 mm wide and 1,250 mm high.
In the UK, it has received a price tag of £13,499 which makes it approximately RM 71,836. Also, there hasn’t been an official statement about the bike coming to Malaysia or ASEAN market yet.
