Puma ST Overview

Ford has its preparations set at a pace to bring its one of the most awaited offerings under its performance brand ST, the all-new Puma ST. Based on the Puma crossover, the Ford Puma ST is arriving there for those who wish to have the practicality of a crossover and the performance of a sport-oriented hatchback.

The Ford Puma ST will be based on the regular Puma crossover when it comes to overall exterior design. So, this one too will have the hatchback-on-stilts like design with rounded front bonnet and roofline, curved LED headlamps with C-shaped daytime running LEDs and aggressive-looking grille, the last one of which will have red coloured ST badge. The same badge will be present there at the back of the car to remind the people passing by that it is not a regular Ford Puma. The alloy wheels too are expected to be different and sportier in appearance.

On the inside, the overall cabin layout and design of the Ford Puma ST will be similar to that of the standard Ford Puma. However, there will be subtle additions and revisions here, in the form of sporty aluminum pedals, Recaro racing seats with ST badges on them, and an all-black theme with leather upholstery and contrast red stitching on seats, steering wheel, and door panels.

The rest of the design of the cabin here shares much with the standard Ford Puma, such as a flat bottom multifunctional steering wheel, full TFT instrument console with colored display, free mounted touchscreen infotainment system, and automatic climate control. Other noteworthy features expected to make their way in the cabin of the Ford Puma ST are a panoramic sunroof, 10-speaker Bang & Olufsen audio system, powered driver’s seat and push-button start with keyless entry.

The most prominent inclusions in the list of safety features in the Ford Puma ST will be retained from its regular iteration, including the very impressive CoPilot360, which manages adaptive cruise control, lane management system and speed sign recognition, wide-angle reverse camera, blind-spot monitoring system, rear cross-traffic alert, active park assist, pre-collision assist with the pedestrian detection system, road edge detection, and post-collision braking system, apart from all the regular safety features.

The most talked-about aspect of the Ford Puma ST has to be its engine, and unlike the regular Ford Puma, the sporty iteration is supposed to get a 1.5-litre three-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine. Already available in the Fiesta ST, this engine has expected performance outputs of 200 PS of maximum power output and 290 Nm of peak torque output.

To fulfill the expectations of enthusiasts, the engine will be paired to a 6-speed manual gearbox to go with the dynamic appeal of the car. Also, to make the car have more involving driving experience, Ford might also bless the car with a limited-slip differential and launch control on board as well. However, it is not confirmed whether this engine will also get the mild-hybrid system or not.
