  • About Honda Malaysia

    Honda is one of the country’s most trusted automotive manufacturers. Today, Honda maintains several dealerships across Malaysia, including sales, service, and body & paint outlets. Also, to improve its after-sales service in the country, Honda Malaysia last year opened six new Body & Paint Centres, bringing the total of such facilities to 28.

    Honda was established in July 2000 as DRB-Oriental-Honda (DOH), which was a three-way joint venture between DRB-HICOM, Oriental, and Honda. DOH was formed to handle assembly, distribution, and sales of Honda passenger vehicles in Malaysia. In September 2002, the name DRB-Oriental-Honda was changed to Honda Malaysia (HM). 

    Before the establishment of Honda, all the brand operations in the local market were handled by Oriental Holdings and their associates that collectively held franchise rights for Honda passenger cars and motorcycles. Back then Honda cars were assembled at the Oriental Assemblers plant located in Tampoi, Johor, while the motorcycles were manufactured at the Butterworth situated Boon Siew Honda Assembly plant. Both these manufacturing units have been producing Honda models since 1969. 

    Fast forward to today, Honda Malaysia currently has an assembly plant in Pegoh that has a combined annual capacity of 100,000 units. In November 2013, a second assembly line was added at the Pegoh plant, it was built at the cost of RM 382 million and it doubled the production capacity to 100,000 units. Also, the passenger cars are assembled from imported complete knockdown kits. 

    HM’s shareholders include the DRB-HICOM at 34%, Honda Motor Company at 51%, and Oriental Holdings at 15%. It surely is one of Malaysia’s most competitive automotive manufacturers. In the year 2010 HM’s sales, production, and the market grew significantly. In 2015, Honda surpassed its arch-rival Toyota as the best-selling foreign car company in the country. In 2016, Honda surpassed Proton, securing second place in the market. 

    In Malaysia, Honda offers several popular models in key segments, including the City, BR-V, CR-V, Civic, and Jazz.  

    Over the course of time, Honda evolved keeping its lineup in sink with the changing times and customer tastes. The Japanese automaker has also worked hard to insure top-notch after-sales service by the means of opening new facilities or increasing the capacity of the existing ones.
