The latest generation Honda CR-V comes with that feature which was solely missed in all the previous generations of the SUV – the third row of seats. The SUV might not look too large on the outside, however, Honda has managed to make the cabin very spacious.
The Honda CR-V has always had potent petrol engine options, which are extremely refined and benchmarks in terms of performance. The new-generation Honda CR-V too ranks at the highest when it comes to petrol engine refinement and performance.
Given its premium appeal, the Honda CR-V doesn’t compromise on the levels of safety and build quality. With the best in segment list of safety features and strong build quality, the Honda CR-V feels very plush and premium.
With its sleek designing theme at both front and rear, the new Honda CR-V looks very sharp and eye-catching, which gives it every bit of appeal of a premium vehicle.
As compared to other SUVs in its category, the overall dimensions of the Honda CR-V are quite smaller, which do limit its road presence. It is not as large and intimidating as its other rivals like Toyota Fortuner and Ford Everest when it comes to road presence.
The Honda CR-V’s petrol engine has butter-smooth power delivery and good levels of refinement. However, the downside to it is the relatively low fuel efficiency.
While the new Honda CR-V is being pitched in the market as a seven-seater vehicle, the limited space in the third row makes the last most seats best suited for smaller children only.

Honda CR-V, a five-seater SUV, wins hundreds of thousands of wallets every year, and it’s no surprise that it is spacious, comfortable, efficient, and quiet. Equipped with a host of unique tidbits, a profusion of smart components, and even smarter safety appointments, the compact SUV makes coasting free of perspiration. It also known for its strong acceleration and comfortable handling and has earned impressive crash-test scores and delivers an excellent fuel economy.
Touted as one of the best family cars in the Malaysian market, the fifth-generation CR-V is available in four different trim options- 2.0 2WD, 1.5 TC 2WD, 1.5 TC 4WD, and 1.5 TC-P 2WD. Besides some minor letdowns, like the availability of better-looking competitors (Toyota RAV4, Mazda CX-5), the CR-V ticks almost all the boxes and dominates the competition in terms of practicality. Honda CR-V price starts at RM 144,629.
The facelifted Honda CR-V made its ASEAN debut at the Bangkok International Motor Show last month. It has been launched in Thailand with a new look and several additional features while retaining the same powertrain options. The latest iteration is still awaited in Malaysia.
Inside the cabin, the Honda CR-V comes with five seats and has leather upholstery. At the front, there is an 8-way power-adjustable driver seat with lumbar support and a four-way power-adjustable passenger seat. The driver will grip a leather-wrapped, heated steering wheel. It has two sets of LATCH car-seat connectors on the rear seats. The LATCH system receives the second-highest rating of Acceptable from the Insurance Institute of Highway Safety for the ease of use.
As standard, there is a 7-inch touch-infotainment system with Android Auto & Apple CarPlay compatibility, Bluetooth-telephony with voice recognition, and an 8-speaker sound system. Other hi-tech goodies include a fully digital driver’s display, remote keyless entry with push-button start, electronic handbrake, dual-zone climate control with rear air-con vents, walk away auto lock, cruise control, auto-dimming rear-view mirror, and dual rear USB charging ports.
With a sleek designing theme at both front and rear ends, Honda CR-V looks sharp and eye-catching. The decent front fascia features a chrome grille flanked by LED headlamps with day time running lights. There is a nice chrome character line that continues to the chrome rear roof pillar. At the rear, the taillights are jostled with a chrome saber, which is featured on the tailgate. Other standard appointments are electrically-adjustable & closing side mirrors with LED turn indicators, front & rear disc brakes, roof spoiler, and dual-exhaust pipes at the back. However, the top-spec model also gets auto high-beam assist, cornering lights, rain-sensing windscreen wipers, and a programmable power boot lid.
Honda CR-V base trim rides on the 17-inch alloy wheels, and all the other trims have the 18-inch wheels. The available color choices are Modern Steel Metallic, White Orchid Pearl, Obsidian Blue Pearl, Lunar Silver Metallic, and Dark Olive Metallic.
Honda CR-V provides a comfortable ride due to the presence of the strut suspension at the front and multi-link suspension at the rear. Driving in the bad terrains will not be a major issue as the car is equipped with a pretty good suspension system and comes with fair ground clearance.
Out of the four available variants, Honda CR-V base trim gets a 2.0-litre engine, while the rest comes with a 1.5-litre turbo-petrol unit. The 2.0-litre engine produces a maximum power of 113 PS at 6,500 rpm and peak torque of 189 Nm at 4,300 rpm. At the same time, the turbocharged mill generates 142 PS at 5600 rpm and 243 Nm between 2000-5000 rpm.
Among the four trims, only one gets four-wheel drive while the rest are only two-wheel drive. As for performance, the top-spec TC-P 2WD can hit 100 kmph in 8.8 seconds and can manage a top speed of 200 kmph. The SUV has a claimed mileage of 7.0 litres per 100 km (14.2 kmpl).
Honda CR-V comes with disc brakes on all the wheels. The brakes are quite efficient that provides good stopping power. It also supports an anti-lock braking system with EBD and braking assist, which makes braking even smarter.
After performing all the crash tests, the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety gave it the highest rating. Also, the car is rated four stars out of five from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
The list of safety features includes six airbags, hill-start assist, stability control programme, parking sensors with a multi-angle reversing camera, and the rear ISOFIX anchor points. However, the TC-P variant also features Honda Sensing to the above. This combines a bunch of stuff like forward collision warning and mitigation, adaptive cruise control, lane-departure warning and correction, and Honda’s Lane watch system.
Honda CR-V is an excellent compact SUV that is equipped with excellent styling, spacious interior, powerful engines, and a host of safety features. Inside the cabin, there is ample legroom and headroom for the car. The cabin is quite attractive, and the ride quality is excellent.

I have liked the design of the Honda CR-V ever since it was first launched here in Malaysia. It is nothing extra normal, just a casual approach to a 5-seater SUV. One great thing about it is the fact that the car is big in terms of the dimensions, it could easily fit a 7 seat layout. But I like
