Is the 2019 Ford Everest with a new diesel engine coming to Malaysia?

KUALA LUMPUR: Ford has updated its Everest for the year 2019 and brings in a host of changes. While there are a few new touches at the exterior to make the SUV a bit more aesthetically pleasing, the elephant in the room is under the hood and is definitely worth a look. It’s a new 2.0-litre EcoBlue diesel engine.

Ford has provided this new engine in two different states of tune. There’s the one with 182 PS of max power and 420 Nm of peak torque. The other one is a bit more powerful with twin-turbo tuning and produces 215 PS of power output and 500 Nm of torque. Both the trims are mated to a new 10-speed automatic transmission.

Other features that you’d spot on the 2019 Ford Everest include a larger three-slat grille at the front, slightly updated bi-xenon headlights, a redesigned front bumper, and new 6-spoke alloy wheels. The Ford SYNC3 infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity has been made standard across all variants. Ford has also added autonomous emergency braking (AEB) and pedestrian along with vehicle detection in the list of safety features of the new Everest.

The 2019 Ford Everest was first unveiled in May 2018 in Australia. Ford has chosen Thailand to be the first market to receive the updated Everest with the new diesel engine. As of now, there is no official confirmation whether Ford would launch it in Malaysia or not. But we’re expecting to get more information on this in the near future.

The current generation of Ford Everest here in Malaysia comes with two engine options - a 2.2-litre unit with 160 PS and 385 Nm on tap, and a 3.2-litre mill with 200 PS of power and 470 Nm of torque. If Ford decides to bring the 2019 Everest here, it's quite likely that it's going to replace these two engines with the new one.
