New Proton Persona and Iriz on their way?

KUALA LUMPUR: It has not been too long since Proton launched its highly anticipated SUV X70 and the manufacturer has already started revising its existing lineup. The cars in the spotlight today are the Proton Persona and Proton Iriz. In the recent images floating on the internet, we see the facelifted Persona and Iriz on the PLUS Highway heading towards south. We have already seen a couple of images of the facelifted Iriz in January which disclosed the rear end of the updated hatch. However, on this occasion, both the Persona and the Iriz are clothed with some heavy camouflage.

A 1.3-litre and a 1.6-litre engine, both equipped with VVT should be featuring on the facelifted Iriz, just like the on-sale model. Power delivery to the wheels is expected to be done by either a 5-speed manual transmission or a CVT unit by Punch, a transmission expert. The sedan Persona should also be housing the same 1.6-litre VVT motor coupled to a CVT or a 5-speed manual transmission unit.

Sources suggest that the updated Persona and Iriz may well come equipped with the GKUI (Geely Smart Ecosystem) infotainment system by Geely. Proton X70 was the first to feature GKUI. And now, other offerings from Proton are also set to get new features thanks to the Geely-Proton partnership. However, the Iriz might get a simpler version of the GKUI while the Persona is expected to feature a full version of the same.
