Yamaha introduces the YZF-R1 GYTR 20th anniversary edition

KUALA LUMPUR: Yamaha recently announced the introduction of a special edition model of its star sports bike, the YZF-R1. For those who are not aware, the said sports bike was launched in 1998, and with its superb and innovative mechanism, it gave many a run for their money.

Named the YZF-R1 GYTR 20th Anniversary Edition, the bike is for circuit use only. And Yamaha restricts its road usage entirely. Adding to the news is the 20 units limited stock, all of which has reportedly been reserved. So, for enthusiasts out there planning to catch hold of one, we’d say move on, as now the beast can only be enjoyed in pictures.

Priced at €39,500 each (approx. RM188,057), the YZF-R1 GYTR is decorated in white and red livery coming from Yamaha Factory Racing Team. The same attire was used by the team when they won the Suzuka 8 Hour title for the fourth consecutive time this year.

Further, making the 20th edition special is the use of various GYTR equipment. The said Genuine Yamaha Technology Racing parts enhances the bike performance. Included in the list are a communication control unit, racer ECU, quick throttle, Ohlins racing suspension with a steering damper, and spark plug.

As mentioned earlier, only twenty bikes will be produced; however, each one will have its distinct identity. Yamaha will ship each YZF-R1 GYTR special edition with a unique number that would be engraved on the top yolk. The bike would be delivered with a certificate of authenticity.

Yamaha is yet to announce more specifications around the special edition model. We hope that the same would be revealed during the Yamaga Racing Experience in Spring/Summer 2019. All the owners would be invited at this event, and for others attending they can fine tune their R1s with an exclusive GYRT set up.

OEM Tail Light and more.
