Foton View C2

The functional approach in the design of the Foton View C2 can be seen in the interior layout too, as the cabin of this Chinese van looks basic and decently laid out. The driver’s cockpit of the Foton View C2 comprises a four-spoke steering wheel and an all-analogue instrument console, much like in other commercial vehicles.

There are a lot of rectangular influences in the design of the bits of the interior of the Foton View C2, which is visible in the empty storage bins and AC vents and housings for the infotainment system and switches for the climate control. The dashboard and door panels, which get a dual-tone grey and beige upholstery, also feature nice-looking silver inserts over them at places. There is a huge mesh grille, which separates the front three-seater compartment of the Foton View C2 with the loading area behind it.

The overall look of the Foton View C2 is very much inspired by that of traditional Japanese vans from Toyota and Mitsubishi, which is very evident from the design of the front and rear profiles. In all, the Foton View C2 has a functional and basic design, which is easy on the eyes and looks proportionate.

At the front, the Foton View C2 has a sloping windshield, which has a compact and flat apron below it. Just below the front apron, there sits a trapezoidal grille with tapered lower edges and horizontal chrome slats across its width. On both sides of the grille, the Foton View C2 comes armed with rectangular all-halogen headlamps. The all-black plastic front bumper looks massive and comes integrated with fog lamps on the corners and a wide air dam in the middle.

The Foton View C2 has a very basic-looking side profile, which consists of a trapezoidal window for the driver’s seat and a large protruding panel in place of the sliding rear windows. With prominent-looking rounded wheel arches, the Foton View C2 comes with body-coloured door handles and five-spoke wheel caps for the steel wheels. However, the black plastic rearview mirrors, which are manually adjustable, look a tad too basic.

The rear profile of the Foton View C2 also seeks inspiration from Japanese vans like Toyota Hiace, which can be seen in the vertically-aligned tail lamps with tapered upper and lower edges. The rear profile also gets a flat panel in place of the rear windscreen and trapezoidal license plate housing with a chrome garnish above it. At the top, the Foton View C2 also gets a sleek-looking brake light.

The Foton View C2 has a very basic and cost-effective suspension setup of Macpherson struts at the front and leaf springs at the rear. While the ride quality and handling are nothing much impressive to talk about, the suspension setup is rugged enough to take much of the beating with ease. The Foton View C2 rides on 15-inch tyres.

For the View CS2, Foton has chosen a tried-and-tested 2.8-litre four-cylinder diesel engine from the lineup of Isuzu. One of the most reliable Japanese engines of the current times, this Isuzu diesel engine is paired with a 5-speed manual gearbox here and produces 95 PS of maximum power and 225 Nm of maximum torque.

The only basic safety essentials which are being offered in Foton View C2 are ABS with EBD and reverse parking sensors.

The Foton View C2 serves the purpose of transporting loads from point A to point B in an effective manner, with the van having a reliable engine and rugged suspension setup to do the job. However, don’t expect much from the Foton View C2 in terms of equipment and fit and finish levels.
