Porsche 911 Carrera

Introduction:

Porsche Carrera is certainly one of the most high performance sports car available in the world today, this “Need For Speed” drive is yet another sensational innovation by the German automakers- Porsche AG which was first introduced in 1963. Carrera has been a great success story not just in Malaysia but all over the world and much credits for this goes to its dynamic demeanor, superior power, sumptuous interiors and advanced infotainment system. The new Carrera comes equipped with Direct Fuel Injection (DFI) system and VarioCam plus technology which ensure high power and performance as well as a decent fuel economy. The most recent Carrera variant, Carrera GT3, was unveiled in the Malaysian market in August 2014 at the Sepang International circuit.

Engine, Mileage & Variants:

Porsche Carrera comes in 20 different variants equipped with 3.4-litre and 3.8-litre petrol engines which gives the customers a fair discretion. The signature mid mounted Porsche engine employed in Carrera keeps the centre of gravity low and hence uniformly transfers load between the front and rear axles. The maximum power delivered across all the variants ranges from 257 kW at 7400 rpm to 412 kW between 6500 to 6750 rpm. The peak torque reached ranges from 390 Nm at 5600 rpm to 700 Nm between 2100 to 4250 rpm. The VarioCam Plus Technology and the direct fuel injection system work in harmonics to deliver a superior fuel economy. The mileage across all the variants ranges from 8 kmpl to 12.2 kmpl. It seems quite obvious that Carrera is meant to be driven around in exhilarating pace, and for that very reason the 0-100 kmph acceleration count in the drive ranges between 4.1 seconds to 5.3 seconds while the top speed of almost all the variants is limited at 300 kmph.

Exteriors:

The New Porsche Carrera is a treat for the eyes and for the driver as well. The extreme racer has come up with noticeable transformations from that of its predecessors. The futuristic front, sporty and aerodynamic side profile and a dynamic rear gives the car an elegant appearance. The vehicle architecture accentuated by the low roof line is a masterstroke. The car comes equipped with alloy wheels measuring 235/40 R19, 285/35 R19, 245/35 R20, 295/30 R20 and 305/30 R20. The dimensions of the car range from 4491 mm-4509 mm x 1808-1880 mm x 1295 mm-1303mm(L x W x H) and the wheelbase of the car measures 2450 mm which makes provisions for ample of legroom and cabin space inside.

Interiors:

The interior of Porsche Carrera is like an oasis of calm in this hectic world. High quality has been reflected in every small detail of the car. The interiors are defined by exceptional ergonomics which includes high quality upholstery and the ascending centre console. The instrument panel has been incorporated with a 4.6 inch color screen which can display various relevant information like speed limit indicator and also works as an interface for audio system. Besides that, the optional Bose Surround Sound System is available which comes with 12 high power loudspeakers and a 100W subwoofer the combined effect of which gives an enhanced acoustic experience. The boot space provided in the car measures 145-litres which is quite low, but considering the segment it is launched it, it is actually a treat that Carrera houses any boot at all.

Safety, Braking and Miscellaneous:

The signature Porsche Doppelkuppulung (PDK) transmission system optionally available in both manual and automatic transmission not only improves the handling but also gives a better acceleration. Another notable feature is the optional Power steering Plus, the power steering system, which further enhances the driving experience. The German automakers haven't compromised safety with high power engines and have equipped the car with plenty of safety features. Carrera is equipped with full size airbags that work in 2 different stages depending on the intensity of collision. Besides that the car has been incorporated with plenty of other safety features like Porsche Side Impact Protection System, Anti Theft Protection and Porsche Stability Management that are more than enough to ensure a safe ride.

Verdict:

Carrera has kept alive the basic folklore of the elite German manufacturers and comes embedded with a plethora of captivating feature in a supremely elegant drive. However, the high price of the car might set a bit of disgruntlement but still, its a Porche, Enough said!
