The 2022 European Car of the Year is …

KUALA LUMPUR: The innovative SUV from South Korea, the Kia EV6 grabbed the first Car of the Year award for the brand.

The Kia SUV rightfully took the title with 279 points and 12 individual top votes after a close battle with the Renault Megane E-Tech Electric (at 265 points) and the Hyundai Ioniq 5 (at 261 points).

It was only last year that the South Korean automaker reinvented itself with a new name, new logo, and a new distinctive design philosophy called ‘Opposites United’. All of which seems to be working in favour of the brand.

The Kia EV6 was the first vehicle to be launched under this new direction and is also the brand’s first dedicated battery electric car based on the company’s new Electric-Global modular Platform (E-GMP).

Thanks to E-GMP, the EV6 is enabled to deliver a pleasant performance, ultra-fast charging, and AWD capability. It delivers an estimated all-electric range of 482 km. On the inside, the Kia EV6 offers an unprecedented level of comfort, connectivity, and safety.

As for its mechanical configuration, the EV6 comes with an energy-dense Nickel-Cobalt-Manganese battery pack offered in two sizes - 58 kWh and 77.4 kWh. In both sizes the battery pack delivers power to both RWD and AWD electric engine layout with varying power at the front and rear axles.

As for the panel, it consisted of 61 motoring journalists from 23 European countries. So, there’s no doubt about the credibility of the award, right? Further proving its worth, the Kia EV6 has under its wings titles like Irish Car of the Year and German Car of the Year.
