With its glitzy design and aerodynamic profile, the Mazda CX-5 looks stunning to say the least. The SUV manages to look very contemporary, with sleek front headlamps and wide chrome grille. The side and rear profiles too look neat and fuss-free, which makes it a stylish vehicle in a whole.
Justifying its premium positioning, the Mazda CX-5 is one perfect example of a nicely executed vehicle with high-quality fit and finish. The midsize crossover feels built to last, with impeccable build quality putting it in the league of compact SUVs from high-end luxury carmakers.
Another aspect which imparts the Mazda a feel-good factor is the long list of comfort, convenience and safety features it is blessed with. With segment-best features like adaptive full LED headlamps, smart city brake support, blind-spot monitoring system, rear cross-traffic alert, lane departure warning, driver attention alert, lane keep assist system, the Mazda CX-5 is one of the safest cars in its category.
The Nissan X-Trail is the only SUV in its segment which comes with a petrol hybrid engine option, apart from the regular conventional petrol engine. The petrol-hybrid engine in the Nissan X-Trail not only feels more smooth and refined but also trumps other SUVs when it comes to fuel efficiency.
With the presence of safety features like lane departure warning, blind-spot monitoring system, forward collision warning, and forward emergency braking, the Nissan X-Trail is one of the safest premium SUVs in its category.
For a premium SUV, the Nissan X-Trail has a good balance of comfortable ride quality and good driving dynamics. The SUV, despite having a high ground clearance, has negligible body roll, which makes the overall driving experience very pleasurable.
Despite having a contemporary and modern design and good road presence, the Mazda CX-5 somewhat lacks the butch stance of a typical SUV and looks more like a crossover. This might be turn-off for many traditional SUV buyers.
The Mazda CX-5 features a decent amount of space at both the front as well as rear. However, the boot space is quite limited and could have been a bit more.
For an SUV, the Mazda CX-5 is a bit low slung and could have done with a bit more ground clearance. It is adequate and gets the job done, but is not big enough for an SUV of this cadre.
While the front and second row of seats in Nissan X-Trail are very plush and spacious, the third row of seats suffer from low space levels. Both the legroom and knee room are very low, which makes them best suitable only for small kids.
The recent facelift of the Nissan X-Trail has made it quite eye-pleasing this time, however, it still lacks the road presence of other conventional full-size premium SUVs available at its price.
While the Nissan X-Trail feels solidly built-in and out, the design of the central console on the dashboard is a bit unappealing. The presence of a number of buttons around the infotainment system makes it look a bit cluttered.
