137,000 units of Honda CR-V recalled globally

KUALA LUMPUR: Pay attention 2019 Honda CR-V owners. Honda has issued a notice recalling 137,000 units of the CR-V crossover globally. The reason for the recall is said to be the sudden deployment of the airbags without any prior warning, due to a faulty component.

As per the official notice from the automaker, metal burrs inside the steering wheel can damage the cables and wiring harness that are a part of the crossover’s airbag system. This can further lead to overheating and electric short circuit that can trigger the sudden deployment of the airbag.

Are there any casualties reported?
Well, according to the data collected by Honda, there have been a total of six incidents leading to three injuries due to the sudden deployment of the airbag.

What Honda plans to do, to resolve the problem?
Recalling the affected vehicles is the first step. Next, the automaker will place a protective cover on the steering wheel core. Also, the wiring harness and clock-spring will be replaced.

 

How to detect whether or not your vehicle is affected?
Honda has started alerting the owners of the affected 2019 CR-V via different mediums. However, one can check for the following signs, which if are there calls for an immediate check-up. Included in the list are - sudden activation of the horn, non-working multi-function steering wheel buttons, and SRS airbag warning light appearing on the instrument panel.

Out of the total 137,000 recalled units, 118,589 are from the US. Honda Malaysia is yet to make an announcement on the subject. However, until that happens, you can check your car for the warning signs mentioned above signals.
