Nissan introduces modified X-Trail for mountain rescue needs

KUALA LUMPUR: Nissan has rolled out a modified version of its X-Trail e-4ORCE for mountain rescue needs in European ski slopes. Dubbed as the Nissan X-Trail Mountain Rescue, the SUV highlights the effortless traction capability of the brand’s family adventure crossover.

To make the SUV fit for snow, the automaker made several alterations which include -

    • Replacement of the wheels with snow tracks for better traction on slippery slopes
    • Removal of the rear seats to install a stretcher and a seat for a medical professional, enabling the transportation of injured skiers to the nearest medical facility
    • Addition of a bespoke roof rack for carrying evacuation stretcher and snow shovels
    • Installation of a siren, flashing light bar, and powerful lights on the roof and lights on the hood

    • Addition of a winch on the enhanced front bumper for added utility

According to the automaker, the enhanced system of the modified X-Trail can respond to fluctuations in grip levels within 1/10,000th of a second, about 1000 times faster than a conventional AWD system. It can dynamically allocate power to individual wheels based on the prevailing grip conditions.

"The development of the X-Trail Mountain Rescue and the surrounding campaign is a bold and innovative way to help consumers understand the benefits of Nissan's advanced electrified all-wheel drive system e-4ORCE. Thousands of winter sports enthusiasts passing through the five ski stations will see and understand the peace of mind and poise that X-Trail equipped with e-4ORCE delivers on the road," said Coralie Musy, Vice President, Brand & Customer Experience, Nissan AMIEO (Africa, Middle East, India, Europe, and Oceania) region.

She added: "Over and above the demonstration of the advanced Nissan technology, the campaign also has a wider purpose which is to encourage responsible behaviour among the community of winter sports enthusiasts. Nissan defies the ordinary – both in its use of technology, but also in the role it plays in society.

The X-Trail Mountain Rescue supports a campaign in five European ski resorts under the banner of "Ride Responsibly". Under this programme, the automaker will promote safe skiing with the help of digital signs at slope intersections to reduce the risk of collision. These road signs will be like road signs; they will display "Thank You" for considerate speeds and "Slow Down" for excessive speeds. Nissan will showcase the X-Trail Mountain Rescue in a glass box Italian ski resort of Cervinia.
