Nissan Serena e-POWER Malaysia gets 1,300 bookings, anti-motion sickness family MPV gains momentum

KUALA LUMPUR: The all-new Nissan Serena e-POWER is gaining real traction in Malaysia, with Edaran Tan Chong Motor announcing that bookings have now crossed the 1,300-unit mark.

KEY TAKEAWAYS

  • What is the Nissan Serena e-POWER?

It is an electrified family MPV that uses Nissan’s e-POWER system, where the wheels are driven entirely by an electric motor.
  • How does the Serena e-POWER help reduce motion sickness?

It targets the root causes of passenger discomfort by reducing body sway, head movement, vibration and the jerky responses often felt in conventional vehicles.
  • What introductory offer is available for the Serena e-POWER in Malaysia?

Buyers currently get a RM5,000 rebate plus a complimentary accessories package worth RM8,000.
  • That is a strong early response for a family MPV, especially one that is not just being sold on space and practicality, but on something many families deal with every time they hit the road, motion sickness.

With the Serena e-POWER, Nissan is taking a different route from the usual MPV formula. Instead of simply promising comfort and convenience, this one was engineered around reducing the swaying, pitching, vibration and cabin movement that often leave children, elderly passengers and even adults feeling dizzy or nauseous on longer drives.

It is also the first MPV in Malaysia built around Nissan’s e-POWER system with this anti-motion sickness focus. The wheels are driven entirely by an electric motor, so the driving character is much closer to an EV.

The petrol engine does not send power directly to the wheels, it only works as a generator. The result is smoother acceleration, no conventional gear shifts, less lag, and less of the forward-diving sensation under braking that can make passengers uncomfortable.

“For today’s families, mobility is more than just transportation — it’s part of our daily lifestyle,” said Mr Christopher Tan, Executive Vice President of Edaran Tan Chong Motor Sdn Bhd. “The Serena e-POWER reflects Nissan’s promise that advanced technology should enrich real-world journeys and family needs. By addressing the daily realities of parents, children and elderly passengers who often feel discomfort, dizziness, or fatigue in traditional vehicles, the Serena e-POWER is engineered to reduce motion sickness at its root cause. Directly enhanced ride stability for everyone onboard, we’re giving Malaysian families a genuinely better way to travel, that they can truly enjoy,” added Christopher Tan.

That anti-motion sickness angle feels like it's not just marketing garnish either. Apparently, Nissan’s engineering work here focuses on the usual culprits behind passenger discomfort, including excessive body sway, head movement, vibration and the mismatch between what the eyes see and what the body feels.

To tackle that, the Serena e-POWER gets improved aerodynamics, a revised suspension setup and a reworked steering system to help keep the body more settled. Large windows also play a role by giving passengers better outward visibility, helping reduce that boxed-in sensation that can make motion sickness worse.

On top of that, the first and second rows come with Zero Gravity Seats, designed to better support the body and reduce the small head movements that often trigger nausea.

The quieter cabin also adds to the experience. Because the electric motor handles the drive, the Serena feels calmer and more refined than a typical petrol MPV, especially in town and during stop-go traffic.

In real-world family use, that translates into something buyers will appreciate quickly. Children can nap, read or spend time on a device with less chance of feeling unwell. Elderly passengers get better support and a less tiring ride.

Parents, meanwhile, get a smoother drive and less stress behind the wheel, especially with the e-Pedal Step system helping reduce fatigue in traffic.

That makes the Serena e-POWER particularly relevant for holiday adventure travel, where long hours on the road, packed cabins and endless traffic jams can easily turn an otherwise comfortable MPV into a tiring place to be.

So far, 250 units have already been delivered nationwide, with early owners getting to experience their first Hari Raya journeys in the Serena e-POWER this year.

With demand continuing to build, ETCM is encouraging buyers to book early while production is being ramped up. The introductory offer remains in place for now, including a RM5,000 rebate and a complimentary accessories package worth RM8,000.

The Nissan Serena e-POWER is shaping up to be one of the more relevant MPVs in Malaysia right now, not because it is trying to be sporty or flashy, but because it goes after a genuine family pain point that most seven-seat and eight-seat buyers already understand very well.
