2021 Maserati MC20 set to launch on September 9

KUALA LUMPUR: The upcoming Maserati super sports car, the MC20, is set to arrive soon, i.e., on September 9, 2020. This car has teased us a lot with countless teaser images and videos, but never revealing much out itself, be it design or specifications.

However, from the two latest teaser videos released by the brand whose captions read "Lift off is imminent" and "Art meets engineering", we are sure that it'll feature fabulous curves—soft, seamless curves, instead of sharp lines, like the ones found on Lamborghini and Ferrari.

Besides, the automaker also revealed the nomenclature behind its name, the MC20 that was announced in March. Well, MC here stands for Maserati Corse and 20 for the current year, 2020.

Maserati has disclosed MC20 engine details as well. The super sports car will be powered by an in-house mill called Nettuno. Made in Modena, the Nettuno is a 3.0-litre twin-turbo V6 unit that features a dry-sump system, a 90-degree V architecture, and an 11:1 compression ratio with bore and stroke of 88 mm and 82 mm.

Further, the Nettuno comes equipped with an F-1 style pre-chamber combustion system with twin-spark plugs. The pre-chamber is positioned between the main combustion chamber and spark plug, leading to better combustion. Its other features include a twin-injection fuel system and a second lateral spark plug. While the former helps reduce emission, noise, and fuel consumption, the later ensures constant ignition throughout the rev range.

The 6.0-litre twin-turbo mill makes 630 PS at 7,500 rpm and 730 Nm at 3,000 rpm. Interestingly, it is the same amount of power but higher torque compared to MC12's 6.0-litre V12 mill.

The MC20 will be manufactured at Maserati's Viale Ciro plant, located in Modena, and is called the natural evolution of the MC12. With the arrival of MC20, the company will enter a new life phase and will also make a comeback in the racing game.
