Mazda 2 Sedan - Top alternatives
It was a while back, 2015 to be specific when Mazda Malaysia lineup got a new member, the Mazda 2. It was launched both in hatchback and sedan version because of the thriving demand in the two segments. Since then, the two cars haven’t received much of an update. However, this little fact doesn’t come in the way of its popularity. Nevertheless, one can not deny the fact that with the changing times and taste of the buyers, automakers are introducing more and more advanced versions of their ongoing cars like witnessed with the 2019 Proton Iriz, all-new Persona, and how can we forget the Avanza facelift. Also, the new models introduced for the first time like the X70, Aruz, or Citron A3 Aircross are packed with modern, impressive features.
Taking about the Mazda 2 Sedan, the car sits on RM75,866 - RM92,886 price bracket, which to be frank can be traded with quite a few better-equipped options. Although, we can’t deny the quality, reliability, trustworthiness that comes with the Mazda 2 Sedan. It still without a doubt is a great buy, however, when in the market, its good to check out all the options before taking a final call. So, here are a few alternatives to Mazda 2 Sedan we would advise you to see.
Honda City
When thinking of Mazda 2 Sedan alternatives, the first name to pop in our mind was Honda City. This B-segment sedan needs no introduction as it has built a great reputation and stature for itself not only locally but globally as well. In Malaysia, the City is offered in three trim levels - 1.5 S (RM 78,300), 1.5 E (RM 84,600), and the range-topping 1.5 V (RM 92,000). All the three models are powered by a 1.5-litre i-VTEC four-cylinder engine that produces 120 PS at 6600 rpm along with a peak torque of 145 Nm at 4600 rpm. Also, Earth Dreams CVT unit is the only transmission option available. On the exterior, while the V displayed at all LED setup, the S and E gets halogen setup with LED DRLs. Inside the cabin, most of the features are shared except a few. You can check Honda City specs detail here.
Toyota Vios
Another great option to consider is the Toyota Vios. Also, it was only earlier this year when the all-new 2019 Vios arrived in Malaysia. Like the City, the new Vios is also available in three variants - 1.5J at RM 77,200, mid-range E at RM 81,200, and top-spec G at RM 87,300. Design-wise, the new Vios gets radical changes both at the front and rear. One can say, that it is an extended version of the new Yaris hatchback or vice-versa. Under its hood rests a 2NR-FE 1.5-litre Dual VVT-i 4-cylinder mill that develops 107 PS at 6000 rpm and 140 Nm at 4200 rpm. Sending power to the wheels is a CVT unit with seven-speed Shiftmatic mode. Nissan Almera
Did you know that a new N18 Nissan Almera will be introduced in Malaysia in 2020? However, until that happens, we have got ourselves the good-old Almera, for which Nissan recently launched the Black Series. Apart from that, the Almera is available in two variants - 1.5 E A/T and 1.5 VL A/T. Both offering outstanding fuel efficiency of 14.9 kmpl, class-leading cabin comfort, spacious legroom, and huge boot space. Included in its feature list are elements like multi-reflector headlamps with stylish black outline, signature three-dimensional front grille, 15-inch alloy wheels, outer rear view mirror with turn indicators, and daytime running lights. The cabin benefits from features like fine vision meter with a multi-info display, 6.5-inch display with internet connectivity, steering with audio controls, automatic climate control, and much more. Also, the shared 1.5-litre mill churns out 102 PS of maximum power and 139 Nm of peak torque.
2019 Kia Cerato
Another car that you can trade for the Mazda 2 Sedan is the Kia Cerato. Also, reports suggest that we are soon going to get the all-new 2019 Cerato. The upcoming model even made its local debut at the Kuala Lumpur International Motor Show 2018, where it looked fabulous. So, if you can wait a little longer, we would suggest to check out the new Cerato too. Though the price list is kept under cover, we are hoping it to be a little expensive than the Mazda 2 Sedan. However, it would be totally worth it.
With this, we come to an end of our suggestion list. However, there are a few cross-segment cars you might like to see while on your car search outing. Yes, these are not all sedans, but they fall in the Mazda 2 price range (some even less) and are doing great in their respective classes. On top of our mind are vehicles like the 2019 Toyota Yaris, Perodua Aruz, and new Persona. They all are packed with amazing, all of which you can check at Zigwheels.
