Proton’s export hit an all-time high in Aug 2022

KUALA LUMPUR: It was only a few days back that Perodua announced its August 2022 sales figure and now another national automaker has done the same. Proton delivered a total of 15,880 cars last month, making August the best sales month since July 2013.

Compared to Perodua’s 26,039 sales figure, Proton occupies the second position in Malaysia’s Aug sales chart with a 23.7 percent market share.

Let’s check out the Proton model-wise sales figure for August 2022 -

Proton X50	4,329 units
Proton X70	5,884 units
Proton Saga	6,156 units
Proton Persona	2,612 units
Proton Iriz	962 units

The above-mentioned table reveals the following information -

• In the SUV Segment Proton continues to remain on top of the charts

• The X70 came out to be the leader in the C-segment SUV arena
• Proton Saga is the third most popular model in Malaysia
• Proton Persona and Proton Iriz are the biggest beneficiaries of the brand’s increased production volume
• Proton Exora maintained is top C-segment MPV position

Roslan Abdullah, Deputy Chief Executive Office, Proton said, “With four months to go in 2022, Proton's production operations have stabilized. Critically, our component supply is now more consistent and better managed to ensure we can produce as many cars as possible. With that in mind, we have undertaken an initiative to increase the number of delivery trucks by over 100% by the end of the year. This makes it easier to ensure our dealers receive their stock as quickly as possible and in turn, this benefits our customers who have been patiently waiting for their vehicles.”

As for export, the brand send out a total of 938 cars in August, thus making it its best figure in the last 10 years! The previous high came in March this year with 794 units exported.

In terms of model-wise exports, the X50 and X70 set individual export records in August.

“Proton’s export sales continue to reach new heights every month and is a testament to how the brand is winning over new customers beyond its home market. Export sales are vital to the company achieving its long-term goals and helps improve the balance of trade for Malaysia while showcasing the quality and ingenuity of Malaysian vendors,”

Overall, it has been a pretty successful year until now with 87,481 car registrations. Compared to last year’s same period 62,637 figure, the brand has achieved a 39.7 per cent growth.
