From The Experts

Things we like

It is quite delightful to see how radical the Honda HR-V looks. The exterior styling inspired from that of the very radical Honda Civic is itself is a big boost to its visual appeal. The HR-V looks striking from whichever angle you look at it, especially the front end which makes it look very sporty. The two-door look of the side profile of the Honda HR-V looks very unique in its segment, thanks to the recessed door handle in the C-pillar.

For a premium compact SUV, the Honda HR-V has been packed with contemporary features which are best in its segment. The HR-V comes with some really premium and feel-good comfort and convenience features which were usually seen and present in only premium and full-sized SUVs.

The Mitsubishi ASX has a size which is perfect for a midsize SUV. Neither it is too small to make it feel from one segment below, nor it is too big to make it cumbersome to drive. It is this size and dimensions of the Mitsubishi ASX which makes it friendly to drive as well as park, while giving it a good road presence as well.

For a five-seater midsize SUV, the Mitsubishi ASX feels quite spacious despite not so large size. With raised seating positions, the cabin of Mitsubishi ASX has generous amount of legroom and headroom which makes it comfortable for long drives as well.

The Mitsubishi ASX, being an entry-level midsize SUV, is equipped with a good amount of comfort and convenience features. With the presence of features like panoramic sunroof, push-button start with keyless entry, seven airbags, leather upholstery, and touchscreen infotainment system, the interior cabin of the ASX feels premium.

Compared to the small and old school looking previous generation Toyota Rush, the new version looks absolutely modern and eye-catching. The new Rush looks quite striking with angular front headlamps, wide front grille, rugged side profile with black cladding, roof rails and machined alloy wheels and the sporty rear profile with wide and horizontal tail lamps. All these design elements make the Rush feel like it is a vehicle from one category above.

The new generation Toyota Rush now features the additional flexibility of two extra seats in the third row, making it a seven-seater compact MUV. These extra two seats have a flexible folding arrangement, thus opening up a cavernous boot space at the rear. At the same time, there are multiple cup holders and small storage spaces in the entire cabin, making it a practical place to be in.

The previous generation Toyota Rush was known for its almost indestructible feel, and this new version of the Rush feels the same way as well. The ever trustable reliability factor of brand Toyota comes into play, giving the owners of the Rush an extra peace of mind when it comes to the after-sales period of owning it.

Things we don't like

While it is not of much big concern, but the Honda HR-V looks more like a raised and rugged hatchback rather than an SUV, which makes its stance not so authoritative. The coupe-ish styling and raised stance do give a rugged effect to the Honda HR-V, however, it does not look as big as a vehicle of this price should be.

The coupe-like profile of the Honda HR-V gives it a very sporty stance at the rear and side, however, this very styling theme eats up a bit of room in the cabin at the rear. The sloping and curvy roofline reduces rear headroom by a small margin, making tall passengers quite uncomfortable.

The presence of a good amount of comfort and convenience features do try to uplift the premium appeal of the Mitsubishi ASX on the inside. However, the dull design of the cabin, especially that of the dashboard, makes it look a bit dated.

The 2.0-litre petrol engine which is present beneath the bonnet of the Mitsubishi ASX is quite powerful for a vehicle of this size. However, the engine isn’t as fuel-efficient as one would expect it to be.

The Mitsubishi ASX has been in the market for quite a long time, without much changes jn its exterior design. Due to this, the ASX has started to show its age, which makes it quite difficult to succeed, especially after the fact that there are many new and contemporary designs marking their entry in the midsize SUV segment.

While the Toyota Rush looks very striking and contemporary on the outside, the fact that it has been moderately styled on the inside makes for confused opinions. The too subtle styling on the inside with boring looking instrument console and center console dilutes the overall experience.

The new Rush is powered by a 1.5-litre petrol engine, which is not as exciting in its power delivery as one would expect from it. The linear power delivery is good for comfortable and effortless driving but is not as engaging to drive, which might be a small turn off for enthusiasts.
