Mazda MX-30

Covered in premium sustainable materials, the interior of the Mazda MX-30 has a minimalist yet classy appeal to it. The cabin looks modern without going overboard, something which is becoming common among the new-generation electric vehicles.

The Mazda MX-30 gets a simple-looking three-spoke multi-functional steering wheel with a nice looking 7-inch TFT instrument console behind it, which is easily the most attractive console we have ever seen in a car from Mazda. The dashboard looks fuss-free with clean lines and a pop-up 8.8-inch touchscreen infotainment system neatly tucked in a dedicated housing in its upper layer. The middle layer of the dashboard has sleek looking AC vents integrated into it and is characterized by a sleek chrome garnish running across the width of the dashboard.

The cascading-type lower centre console houses a touchscreen for other functions of the vehicle, including that of the multi-zone automatic climate control and drives functions. The stubby gear lever and drive mode knob, along with witches for various other functions are placed in the horizontal part of the lower centre console. The cabin also gets a head-up display, 8-speaker music audio system, 8-way power-adjustable driver’s seat with memory and heated front seats.

The Mazda MX-30 is the first electric car from the Japanese carmaker, and to make sure this landmark achievement is special, Mazda has designed the MX-30 in a very unique manner. There are a couple of interesting design details in the Mazda MX-30 which will catch one’s attention in the very first place.

Unlike the new-generation electric vehicles from the rival car makers, the Mazda MX-30 has a conventional-looking front fascia, with a traditional grille in place of a closed grille which is rapidly becoming a new trademark for the EVs. This new slim-looking grille gets honeycomb mesh and is flanked by slim-looking all-LED headlamps, which are bulged from the outer corners in which the LED projectors are housed. The front bumper looks rugged due to the presence of black cladding on its lower half, which also comes integrated with slim strips of chrome on its corners.

The side profile of the Mazda MX-30 looks visually dramatic, with a couple of design cues which give it a unique identity of its own. The Mazda MX-30 comes with Rolls-Royce-esque suicide doors, which open up in opposite directions. However, the rear doors don’t come with external door handles, which give the Mazda MX-30 a two-door look on the outside. The Mazda MX-30 also has a steeply flowing roofline towards the rear, which gives it an almost coupe-like profile. The D-pillar also comes embossed with the vehicle’s name in a chrome-plated garnish.

The steeply raked rear windscreen, which comes with a large roof-mounted spoiler, ends up on a wide looking boot lid, which has two-part LED tail lamps on the outer corners. The hexagonal housing for the license plate is placed on the lower part of the boot lid, while at the bottom, the MX-30 gets a tough-looking rear bumper covered in black plastic moulding.

The Mazda MX-30 features the Japanese car maker’s e-SkyActiv technology, which aims at enhancing the overall driving experience by balancing out spirited driving behaviour and comfortable ride quality from the plush suspension setup. The MX-30 drives well for the urban environment with its light steering setup.

Powering the Mazda MX-30 is a front-mounted 107 kW electric motor, which is capable of pumping out 270 Nm of peak torque output. With this motor, the Mazda MX-30 can touch a top speed of 140 kmph. The 35.5 kWh lithium-ion battery of the Mazda MX-30 is good enough to return a maximum driving range of 265 km on a single charge.

The Mazda MX-30 has an extensively long list of safety features, such as a blind spot monitoring system with rear cross traffic alert, seven airbags, ABS with EBD, front and rear parking sensors, ISOFIX mounts for child seats, driver attention alert, dynamic stability control, e-call with GPS, electronic parking brake, front and rear cameras, hill hold assist, lane departure warning, lane keep assist, radar cruise control with intelligent speed assist, parking aid, smart brake support with turn-across traffic, traction control and tyre pressure monitoring system.
