A Maserati super sportscar dedicated to Sir Stirling Moss
KUALA LUMPUR: Remember Sir Stirling Moss; he was the British motor-racing ace who died on April 12, at the age of 90. Well paying homage to the legend is Maserati’s new super sportscar - an M20 prototype.
The prototype’s design is inspired by the Maserati Eldorado, the iconic single-seater that made its debut in Monza in 1950 and was driven by Stirling Moss himself at the “Trofeo dei due Mondi”.
Though Sterling Moss collected many trophies over the years, there is no doubt that his victory in the Monaco F1 Grand Prix on May 13, 1956, behind the wheels of Maserati 250F stands out. It was a great race, and Moss lead the entire stretch from first to last 100 laps around the demanding circuit. And it is for the same reason Maserati choose May 13 as a day to recall the tremendous British drive.

Moss has to its name 16 victories in 66 starts in F1 Grand Prix racing. He is, without a doubt, one of the most successful drivers never to win the world title. Sir Stirling misses the fist spot mark on more than one occasion, he finished second in four races and third in three championships. For this very reason, he was known as ‘king without a crown’. In the 1956 season and few 1957 races, he drove his favourite Maserati 250F and was beaten only by Juan Manuel Fangio. Moreover, it was Moss’s Argentinian rival that took his 1957 title, and he was driving another 250F, confirming the superiority and reliability of the Modena-built car.

Via the M20 prototype with Sir Stirling Moss’s signature, Maserati wants to celebrate one of the finest names in the racing world. In the list of Maserati cars driven by him are also included the Tipo 61, 300S, and Tipo 60 Birdcage.
Choosing the M20 prototype is no coincidence; through it, the Trident brand wants to underline its sporting vocation and also mark its return on the racing circuit taking up the leading role. The last world championship Maserati won was in 2010 with another fantastic car, the MC12.

The MC20’s arrival is an important one for the automaker, as it not only marks Maserati’s racing comeback, but it is also the first car to get a new powerplant that’s fully developed and produced by the Moderna-based company.
And as per Maserati, Sir Stirling Moss would undoubtedly have liked the M20, as it fully embodies the true values the brand stands for in terms of driving pleasure, performance, and innovative content that is expressed in all its models.
