The luxury SUV segment is one of the most competitive spaces in the Malaysian automotive market, with several premium contenders vying for consumers. One such model is the Audi Q5, which recently made its grand debut in Malaysia in a new avatar. 

As a segment pioneer, the Audi Q5 is widely known as a sporty and versatile everyday vehicle, which focuses not only on one strength but rather provides a balanced ownership experience. 

Priced between RM 352,990 and RM 421,990, the newly launched third-gen Audi Q5 combines refined driving experience, a practical and ergonomic interior, and advanced technology into a well-rounded package, suitable for families, professionals, and driving enthusiasts.

The new Audi Q5 looks modern and classy on the road thanks to its minimalist design language that follows a clean and sophisticated approach instead of dramatic styling. The SUV features balanced proportions and muscular shoulder lines, helping it look elegant yet timeless.

The entry-level Advanced trim features a well-balanced silhouette with an Advanced front grille trim, sharp LED headlights, sculpted body lines, and 19-inch, 10-Arm Aero wheels. The Sportback S line, on the other hand, has a dramatic and dynamic coupe silhouette with a sweeping roofline, S line grille, sharp bumpers and badging, and bigger 20-inch Audi Sport wheels integrating red brake callipers.

The base-spec Advanced trim boasts an elegant vibe with Lime Sediment Natural inlays, while the Q5 Sportback S line has a dynamic approach, with Carbon Micro Twill inlays, a flat-bottom spots S line steering wheel, and sports seats. 

A strong balance between comfort and performance 

Making the new Audi Q5 a well-rounded SUV is how it feels in daily driving. Unlike other luxury SUVs that either excel in sportiness or comfort, it manages to balance both. 

The SUV offers smooth acceleration, stable highway cruising, confident cornering, and strong traction in different road conditions with a comfortable ride quality. While the suspension prioritises composure and refinement, it is also tuned to offer enough agility for an engaging driving experience. The next-gen Q5 takes things to the next level with improved suspension and steering calibration. 

At its core lies Audi’s latest engine technology, comprising a 2.0-litre TFSI turbocharged engine,  a 7-speed S Tronic dual-clutch transmission, and the brand’s renowned Quattro all-wheel drive system. Speaking of the output, the Q5 Advanced delivers 199 PS and 340 Nm, while the Q5 Sportback S line produces 272 PS and 400 Nm.

This balanced approach formula works well for daily commutes, long-distance driving, and occasional spirited cruising.

As mentioned above, the Q5 is equipped with the Quattro AWD system, which is one of the key highlights of the SUV. The legendary system ensures optimal traction and handling in all conditions, providing the driver with confidence and control. It is quite helpful in the following cases -

Advanced technology 

The interior is loaded with a slew of advanced digital features, starting right from a sophisticated curved 14.5-inch OLED MMI panoramic display paired with a fully digital 11.9-inch Audi Virtual Cockpit Plus. The latter is available in different layouts, including a dynamic mode that places the tachometer and speedometer at the forefront. 

The infotainment display supports intuitive control over navigation, media, and vehicle settings, and real-time traffic and Google satellite maps. Further elevating the riding experience is the new Audi Assistant that understands everyday phrases, delivers real-time information, and adjusts comfort features. 

With the help of the Audi Connect feature, owners can lock/unlock, check status, and get theft alerts, all on their smartphone. It is linked with the Audi Emergency Call centre that automatically calls for help in case of accidents.  

The new Q55 also supports the innovative Digital Key feature, allowing the owners to lock,  unlock, and start the vehicle using their smartphone without a key fob. Adding to the convenience are wireless smartphone fast chargers, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, four fast-charging Type C charging ports, and a head-up display. 

Offering an immersive surround sound experience is a Bang & Olufsen 3D Premium Sound System, powered by Fraunhofer’s Symphonia technology that makes every drive a pleasure. 

As for advanced driving assistance, there is Audi Pre Sense that provides proactive occupant protection and anticipates critical situations. Other key ADAS systems are Adaptive Cruise Control, Blind Spot  Monitoring with Exit Warning, Lane Departure Warning, and Rear Occupant Detection.

Generous boot space for everyday needs

Combining sporty character with everyday practicality, the Audi Q5 offers a generous luggage capacity, making it suitable for everyday errands and long-distance travel. 

The Advanced variant comes with 520 litres of luggage capacity, expanding to 1,473 litres with the rear seats folded, while the  Sportback S line, featuring a dramatic coupé profile, offers up to 515 litres of space, which is expandable up to 1,415 litres. For added convenience, there is a hands-free trunk opening system that supports a kicking motion, guided by a projection light on the bottom left. 

Summing up 

Rather than dominating a single category, the all-new Audi Q5 delivers a balanced package that combines refined performance, elegant styling, modern technology, premium luxury, and practical everyday usability. This balance makes it a well-rounded model in the luxury SUV segment.
