MG 07 first images revealed - BEV and PHEV options, LiDAR tech confirmed

KUALA LUMPUR: MG is gearing up to introduce its new fastback sedan in China, named MG 07, rivalling the likes of the BYD Seal and Tesla Model 3. Ahead of the official launch, the automaker has revealed the first official images of its upcoming electrified model. 

Notably, the upcoming MG 07 is different from the petrol-powered MG 7, which is already on sale in various global markets and positioned above it in the brand’s lineup.

Here’s what we know so far about the upcoming MG 07 - 

• The MG 07 underpins SAIC‘s NEV platform and will be offered in both electric and plug-in hybrid powertrain options in China.
• With a fastback silhouette, the vehicle features a low-slung, wide-body stance. Upfront, there is an active intake grille combined with C-shaped headlights and an integrated clamshell hood.

• The side profile looks striking with a long wheelbase and short overhangs. The frameless doors feature semi-hidden door handles and are combined with two-tone sport wheels with colored brake callipers. 
• The sloping roofline of the electrified sedan integrates with a continuous light strip at the rear. 

• Underpinning 800-volt architecture, the MG 07 will come equipped with a roof-mounted LiDAR system. 
• Also, it will be the first MG model to get the Momenta R7 “Enhanced World Model” solution, offering Urban Navigate feature on Autopilot along with a “seamless parking-space-to-parking-space driving experience.”
• The upcoming electrified vehicle is likely to get a large infotainment unit running on a system developed in partnership with Oppo.

As for the detailed specifications, including dimensions, power and range numbers, we need to wait for the full debut. Speaking of the MG 07’s price, the premium fastback sedan is expected to cost between CNY 150,000 (RM 86k) and CNY 200,000 (RM 115k) in China.

As for the MG 07’s chances of making its Malaysian debut, nothing can be confirmed at this time, as it is still unclear whether it will be exported outside China or not.
