Proton e.MAS 7 PHEV variants: Drivetrain and range

Irrespective of the variant, the e.MAS 7 PHEV comes equipped with a 1.5-litre 4-cylinder dedicated hybrid engine and a front-mounted e-motor. It runs in EV mode or series-hybrid mode for most everyday journeys, where the engine generates electricity to charge the battery rather than driving the wheels directly. However, it seamlessly switches to hybrid support when needed, where the engine drives the wheels directly or works in tandem with the motor.

Three drive modes available for different usage scenarios are -

    • Pure mode: Full electric city driving, ideal for daily commuting
    • Hybrid mode: Automatic blending of electric and petrol power, suitable for highway cruising or climbing long gradients
    • Power mode: Enhanced acceleration and responsiveness, suitable for overtaking or dynamic driving situations.

The plug-in hybrid setup comprises a Lithium Iron Phosphate (LFP) battery,  making it safe, durable, and heat-resistant, suitable for Malaysian conditions. The Prime and Premium are equipped with a CATL-sourced 18.4 kWh LFP battery, while the range-topping Premium Plus feature a larger 29.8 kWh Geely Aegis Short Blade LFP unit.
