Zeekr Malaysia is now the country's top premium EV brand, and the numbers seem to back it up
KUALA LUMPUR: Zeekr Malaysia has quietly been putting up some serious numbers in 2026, and the latest JPJ registration data according to Zeekr Malaysia makes it official: the brand is now Malaysia's number one premium electric vehicle brand, year-to-date.
KEY TAKEAWAYS
Is Zeekr the best-selling EV brand in Malaysia?
Not overall, but in the premium segment, yes. Zeekr Malaysia is the number one premium EV brand in Malaysia for 2026 year-to-date based on JPJ registration data, and sits fourth overall among all EV brands in the country. How many cars has Zeekr Malaysia sold in 2026?
As of April 2026, Zeekr Malaysia has registered 1,214 units year-to-date, with 357 of those coming in April alone.According to April 2026 Road Transport Department figures, Zeekr registered 357 EVs in April alone, pushing its 2026 year-to-date total to 1,214 units. How Zeekr got here
Zeekr only set up shop in Malaysia less than two years ago, but it has already moved 3,849 units in total across its entire model range. Breaking that down: 2,509 units of the Zeekr 7X, 1,166 units of the Zeekr 009, and 174 units of the smaller Zeekr X.
The Zeekr 7X is doing most of the heavy lifting. It shifted 303 units in April 2026 alone, compared to just 67 units for the Tesla Model Y in the same month. For the full year-to-date period, the 7X sits at 999 units versus the Model Y's 371 units. That's nearly three times the volume against what was arguably the default choice for anyone shopping in the premium electric SUV space not too long ago.
The Zeekr 7X has also picked up some notable hardware along the way, winning SUV of the Year (RM200k-RM500k) at MCOTY 2025 and Electric SUV of the Year at the VOTY 2026 awards.

The Zeekr 009 MPV recorded 51 units in April and 204 units year-to-date, which is enough to make it the number one premium electric MPV in Malaysia for 2026. Its all-time sales figure sits at 1,166 units since launch.
The 009 has arguably had an even bigger awards run than the 7X. It won Overall Malaysia Car of the Year 2025, Best xEV of the Year and MPV xEV of the Year at MCOTY 2025, and Best Premium EV MPV at the Carlist.my and WapCar.my People's Choice COTY 2025 awards. For a people carrier, that's a fairly remarkable haul.
Eddy Lu, General Manager of Zeekr Intelligent Technology Malaysia, had this to say about the brand's trajectory:
"We are encouraged by the strong response from Malaysian customers and proud that Zeekr has emerged as Malaysia's No.1 premium EV brand. This achievement reflects the trust customers have placed in Zeekr and reinforces our commitment to bringing premium electric vehicles to Malaysia. We remain focused on growing our presence in Malaysia to deliver tech-luxe EVs that blend high-end luxury with advanced smart technology to meet the discerning needs of Malaysian drivers."

Whether that momentum continues through the rest of 2026 remains to be seen, but right now, Zeekr Malaysia is clearly not messing around.
