All-new 2022 Volkswagen Jetta enters the US

KUALA LUMPUR: The 2022 VW Jetta makes a debut in the US and is scheduled to arrive at dealerships by the fourth quarter of 2021. Any changes/upgrades? Yes, the sedan gets a few mechanical upgrades, nip and trunk job, and equipment upgrades.

The new Jetta will be offered in four variant options, including the performance-oriented GLI and a new Sport option.

Under the hood configuration varies according to the variant, like the base model is now powered by a 1.5-litre four-cylinder turbocharged petrol mill generating maximum power of 158 hp along with a peak torque of 250 Nm. The power is sent to four wheels via a 6-speed manual or 8-speed automatic gearbox. The GLI trim, on the other hand, is powered by a 2.0-litre four-pot turbo that churns out 228 hp of power and 350 Nm of torque. This mill is coupled either to a 6-speed manual or 7-speed DSG dual-clutch unit.

While the standard model gets a wide-width intake, the GLI and Sport trim receive a new bumper. The grille is redesigned with chrome trimming. The GLI variant also sports - a rugged front bumper with black garnish, grille & lower intake with mesh application, and more.

On the side, the new Jetta features standard chrome windows. The GLI and Sport trim, on the other hand, get black window surrounds. The GLI gets more, like black dual exhausts and honeycomb diffuser. The wheel options in Jeeta range from 16-inch alloy to 18-inch (on the GLI).

The cabin mostly remains the same as before with all the Jetta models benefiting from a standard 8-inch Digital Cockpit instrument cluster. The GLI is the different one sports a 10-inch Digital Cockpit Pro system. Both regular Jeeta and GLI get an 8-inch touchscreen, wireless charger, MIB infotainment system, and wireless App-Connect.

The lower trims get rhombus fabric with contrast stitching and the higher ones come with leatherette and leather seating surfaces. The 2022 Jeeta gets the leather upholstery in two colour options - black two-tone palette and Volcano Brown. The GLI being the performance-oriented model gets a sport steering wheel, red contrast stitching, and perforated leather seats with red underlay.
