Maserati releases a teaser video of brand new sports car

KUALA LUMPUR: The Italian luxury vehicle manufacturer, Maserati has released a teaser video, which confirms that the brand will soon come up with a new sports car. According to the carmaker, the vehicle is set to be revealed in May 2020. So, it is still six months away, and no information or images of the car has been shared yet.

However, the teaser video features an eight-cylinder soundtrack, which indicates that there are possibilities that the brand new sports car will be powered by an internal combustion mill. But it is also possible that it can be a hybrid as most of the carmakers are now moving towards electric powertrains. In addition to that, if the carmaker offers an internal combustion engine, then it will contradict with the statement of Maserati that it will electrify all the new models in the future.

Despite the flattering timelines, the Maserati new sports car is unlikely to be the substitute for the GranTurismo, which is set to arrive in the year 2021. Considering the past suggestions and rumours from the luxury carmaker, it can be expected the car will be sportier and a smaller model. Moreover, it is broadly assumed that the teaser car will be the long-heralded road-legal variant of the Alfieri concept.

According to a previous report, the car is set to come in either a convertible or a coupé and will flaunt active aerodynamics. It also stated that the vehicle will be produced on a new modular aluminium spaceframe and will feature three electric motors that will send the power to an all-wheel-drive system. With that,

the car will be able to achieve the 0-100 kmph mark in just two seconds and hit a top speed of 300 km/h. It will be manufactured in the Modena plant, which is currently getting refurbished to help the production of electrified vehicles.
