New Perodua SUV teased again ahead of December 17 debut

KUALA LUMPUR: Perodua is ready to expand its range with the launch of an all-new compact SUV. While the automaker has yet to reveal the model’s name and official specifications, a series of teasers released over the past few days has captured everyone’s attention. 

The latest teaser mentions “3 days to go,” strongly suggesting that the new Perodua SUV will make its official debut on December 17, 2025. 

New Perodua SUV: What to expect?

While Perodua has not shared any concrete details about the SUV so far, there is widespread speculation that it could be called the Traz or Nexis, as these names were trademarked by the automaker a few years ago.

Reports also suggest that the upcoming Perodua SUV will be based on the ASEAN-market Toyota Yaris Cross. The teaser clips showcase the vehicle's black silhouette, front grille and side profile, which closely resemble those of the Toyota model.

Built on the Daihatsu New Global Architecture (DNGA) platform, the Yaris Cross is a B-segment SUV, measuring 4,310 mm in length, 1,770 mm in width, and 1,615 mm in height and has a wheelbase of 2,620 mm. Considering it as a donor model, the upcoming Perodua SUV is expected to be positioned below the Ativa and rival against the Proton X50 and Honda HR-V.

As for the drivetrain setup, the Indonesia-spec Toyota SUV features a 1.5-litre naturally aspirated four-cylinder unit generating a maximum power of 106 hp and a peak torque of 138 Nm. However, in Thailand, it comes powered by a hybrid powertrain comprising a 1.5-litre NA four-cylinder mill and an electric motor, delivering a combined output of 111 PS. Which of these powertrains will be offered with the Perodua SUV remains unknown as of now.
