Maserati reveals GranTurismo Zéda, pays tribute to the GT lineup

KUALA LUMPUR: Italian luxury automobile manufacturer, Maserati has unveiled GranTurismo Zéda to pay tribute to the GT lineup. The GT lineup has been discontinued due to the carmaker’s resolution of entering into a new era of manufacturing electric cars.

The brand has recently announced that its fresh lineup will either be electrified or transformed into fully electric. Due to this transformation, it is offering farewell to one of its most popular vehicles, the GranCabrio and GranTurismo. The production of both models has been now discontinued in the brand’s Modena plant.

The carmaker has stated that the shift in colors from white to black and finally blue works as a “bridge” that attaches the future, the present, and the past of the marque. In addition to that, the name also pays tribute to the roots of Maserati, as the initial reminds that for every ending, there is a new beginning. The automaker is also planning to renovate the Modena plant, which will witness the production of a new sports car and is expected to launch in 2020.

The carmaker has confirmed not to give up on the GranCabrio and GranTurismo. Instead, launch a new generation of both the models, which are expected to arrive in 2022 and 2021, respectively. Moreover, the production of the models mentioned above will be moved to Maserati’s Turin manufacturing plant.

Moreover, the carmaker has provided various updates, which include a larger-displacement, 4.7-litre V8 engine. The mill mentioned above is a Ferrari sourced engine that offers improved performance compared to the original 4.2-litre unit. The V8 is capable of churning out 460 PS (454 hp) of maximum power at 7,000 rpm and 520 Nm of peak torque at 4,750 rpm. The mill is capable of achieving the 0-100 kmph mark in just 4.8 seconds and can hit a top speed of 299 kmph.
