BMW 2 Series Gran Coupe

Matching its youthful appeal of the exterior design, the interior cabin of the BMW 2-Series Gran Coupe is finished in the same quality levels as the more premium offerings from the German carmaker. In addition, there are some traits which look exclusively designed for the 2-Series Gran Coupe, including the layout of the touchscreen infotainment system with slightly protruding forward design.

The M-Sport spec multi-functional steering wheel looks a bit simple for this car, but the glitzy-in-appearance full TFT instrument console certainly looks very futuristic. The center console, consisting of trapezoidal-themed AC vents and panel for climate control below it, also get piano black surrounds to match the sporty appeal of the car.

The features like ‘Illuminated Boston’ ambient lighting, panorama glass roof, powered front sport seats and plush Dakota leather upholstery make the BMW 2-Series Gran Coupe feel like a big and premium car on the inside. What hampers its ‘big-size’ appeal surely is the limited space at the back, with the taller passengers having the possibility of limited knee room and headroom.

With compact dimensions and sporty stance to offer, the BMW 2-Series Gran Coupe is one perfect car to make a style statement without splurging a whole lot of money. The four-door coupe impresses with its aerodynamic profile, which flows like that of a traditional sports coupe, and has many of the traditional design cues of other BMWs in a much more modern looking tweaked form.

The frontal profile of the BMW 2-Series Gran Coupe welcomes you with its large double kidney grille, in which both the parts of the grille are spread like butterfly wings, get vertical fragmented satin chrome highlights on their inside and satin chrome surrounds for them. The sweptback headlamps look angular and have sharp dual LED projectors with tilted C-shaped daytime running LEDs around them.

This M-Sport variant gets a very sporty looking front bumper with large air inlets towards the corners as well as below the grille, with the latter ones getting satin chrome finish as well. The side profile of the BMW 2-Series Gran Coupe is inspired a lot from the more expensive four-door coupes of BMW, with a sloping roofline and frameless doors accentuating its sporty stance even more. The roofline flows back all towards the boot, giving it an impression of a grand tourer.

The rear profile of the BMW 2-Series Gran Coupe looks quite wide and huge for a car of this size, with sleek LED tail lamps and a crisp black character line flowing in between them, just below the boot-mounted rear spoiler. The slightly lower positioned license plate housing on the boot and rectangular exhaust ports make it look very different from that of the rest of the BMW range.

Like all the other BMWs, the BMW 2-Series Gran Coupe is one incredibly fun to drive car, with it getting M-Sport spec suspension setup with tighter damper settings and harder stabilizers enhancing its agility over both stretches and corners in a balanced manner. The ride quality, though, has taken a slight hit due to the stiffer suspension setup.

The BMW 2-Series Gran Coupe is being offered in Malaysia with the sole petrol automatic powertrain of a 1.5-litre three-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine paired to a 7-speed automatic transmission. This is the smallest engine currently in BMW’s global lineup, and here in the BMW 2-Series Gran Coupe, it produces 140 PS of power and 220 Nm of torque.

This entry-level offering from BMW is substantially kitted with enough safety features, comprising of the front, side and curtain airbags, ABS with EBD, traction control, electronic stability control, hill start assist, front and rear park assist with reverse camera, manual speed limit assist, front and rear collision warning with a braking system, lane departure warning and rear cross-traffic alert.

The BMW 2-Series Gran Coupe does not present itself as a supremely practical four-door sedan as the likes of 3-Series and 5-Series. Instead, it provides the option of entering into the world of BMW at a more accessible price point, providing oodles of character with sporty styling and sharp driving dynamics.
