New generation Toyota Camry to arrive soon in Thailand

KUALA LUMPUR: The next generation Toyota Camry has been revealed in Thailand and is slated for a 29th of October, 2018 launch. This revelation and launch date announcement have come after the car was spotted a few months back, albeit in covers.

We still don’t have a lot of information about the car on offer yet, and hence, the engine setup is still unknown. However, there are chances that it would be getting the four-cylinder, 2.5-litre engine making 208 PS, along with a peak torque of 252 Nm. The transmission duties might be handled by an 8-speed automatic gearbox.

Apart from this, there is another option for the engine too, which is a 2.0-litre unit. The motor can churn out 167 PS of power and 199 Nm of torque. The bigger V6 3.5-litre motor is also a part of the new Camry specs sheet, but might not make it to the Malaysian market.

 

Alongside the internal combustion engine ( making 178 PS and 221 Nm), there is also a hybrid mechanism can churn out another 120 PS of power and 202 Nm of torque, taking the total power to a good 202 PS. The battery that powers the electric motor is now placed under the rear seat rather than the boot. This has been done to get a lower centre of gravity and better performance.

Going by the images that Toyota shared on its official website, a lot of the design cues could not be made out. However, we can be sure that it rides on the TNGA (Toyota New Global Architecture), which is used for the C-HR and Prius too.

The interior setup will be refreshed too. In comparison to the current Camry, there will be a lot of tech bits and safety features with driver’s assistance, including adaptive cruise control and autonomous emergency brakes.
