Nissan temporarily adjusts the production in Thailand amid coronavirus outbreak

KUALA LUMPUR: The COVID-19 pandemic has led to the temporary suspension of manufacturing units of almost all the automakers in the infected areas. People cannot step out of the house for buying the non-essentials, which means no car buying for now. Amid all these situations, the Japanese carmaker, Nissan has also decided to halt the production at its Samut Prakan factory in Thailand from April 6.

As the positive cases of COVID-19 increase in the country, the government and Ministry of Public Health are enforcing stringent measures to curb the spread of coronavirus. In line with these measures, Nissan decided to suspend the manufacturing for the well-being of its employees, customers, and community. The factory has two production plants; the operations at Plant 2 have been suspended until May 3, while the production activities of Plant 1 continue with the fewer resources to meet the current demand levels. For the office staff, the firm has made the provision of work from home.

Despite shutting down the plant temporarily, all the Nissan dealers in Thailand will remain open to serve customers. However, all the preventive measures are being taken on a regular basis for the health of staff and customers.

In this regard, Ramesh Narasimhan, president of Nissan Thailand, mentioned, “Our goal is to resume normal business operations as soon as possible, but ensuring the safety and well-being of all our employees, their families, and Thai society is our priority right now given the COVID-19 pandemic.”

Plant 2 is mainly involved in the production of Nissan Navara or Terra, so if you have booked a one then wait until the situation becomes normal. As of now, Thailand has 2,169 confirmed cases of the coronavirus while Malaysia has 3,662 positive cases in total.
