Proton scores high sales numbers in June

KUALA LUMPUR: In June, Proton sold 7,615 units. It’s the second-highest sales figure achieved the brand for the year until now. Prior to this, the Malaysian-born auto brand sold 10,611 in May, making it the top sales number for the year. With over 7k units, Proton is now right behind Perodua, the market leader in sales.

The sales figure mentioned above has helped the brand occupying 18.1 percent of the market share, that’s highest since July 2015. When compared to last years figure for the same month, the company reports a 23 percent increment. Also, in terms of overall sales growth for the first six months of 2019, the June sales have contributed a good 61 percent. Thus, putting the brand on the path that’ll help achieve this year’s sales target.

The biggest contributor to Proton’s first six month sales of the year 2019 is undoubtedly the X70, of which 15,175 units are sold. For June, the automaker sold 2,541 units if the Saga sedan and the bookings for the revised Persona, Exora, and Iriz also enjoyed a hike of 108 percent, 135 percent, and 180 percent, respectively.

Li Chunrong, Proton CEO said, By achieving a market share of 18.1% in June, Proton continues to show positive sales growth this year despite the tough market conditions following the Hari Raya holidays. Our year to date market share currently stands at 14.7% and is a big improvement of our 2018 figure of 10.8%.” He further added that “For the second half of the year, we will concentrate on building our sales and exciting the market by introducing new and updated models as we promised at the beginning of the year,”.
