The Nissan X-Trail is the only SUV in its segment which comes with a petrol hybrid engine option, apart from the regular conventional petrol engine. The petrol-hybrid engine in the Nissan X-Trail not only feels more smooth and refined but also trumps other SUVs when it comes to fuel efficiency.
With the presence of safety features like lane departure warning, blind-spot monitoring system, forward collision warning, and forward emergency braking, the Nissan X-Trail is one of the safest premium SUVs in its category.
For a premium SUV, the Nissan X-Trail has a good balance of comfortable ride quality and good driving dynamics. The SUV, despite having a high ground clearance, has negligible body roll, which makes the overall driving experience very pleasurable.
Compared to the previous generation Toyota Fortuner which looked boxy and a bit dated, the new Fortuner definitely manages to command a second glance with its new and contemporary design. While the front looks much sleeker and fresher than before, the heightened stance from side profile as well as rear still manages to retain the muscular appeal of the SUV.
The Fortuner manages to retain the extra-large appeal on the inside as well, with all the seven seats offering great levels of comfort and space. Even the third row of seats do offer a decent amount of legroom and knee room for taller passengers.
The Toyota Fortuner has been blessed with a very capable four-wheel-drive system, which enables the SUV to tower over the worst of road conditions with great ease. The high ground clearance, as well as a stiffer suspension system, do complement the four-wheel-drive system very efficiently.
While the front and second row of seats in Nissan X-Trail are very plush and spacious, the third row of seats suffer from low space levels. Both the legroom and knee room are very low, which makes them best suitable only for small kids.
The recent facelift of the Nissan X-Trail has made it quite eye-pleasing this time, however, it still lacks the road presence of other conventional full-size premium SUVs available at its price.
While the Nissan X-Trail feels solidly built-in and out, the design of the central console on the dashboard is a bit unappealing. The presence of a number of buttons around the infotainment system makes it look a bit cluttered.
While the Toyota Fortuner looks butch and very luxurious from the outside, the same cannot be said about the interior cabin. It lacks the level of luxury which one expects from a vehicle of this size and price, with the lack of a number of crucial premium comfort and convenience features further souring the deal.
The seats do offer excellent levels of comfort, however, the ride quality doesn’t complement them well to impart a pure comfortable experience to the passengers inside. The bouncy ride quality, especially over rough surfaces, is a bit of concern.
While the powertrain of the Toyota Fortuner feels powerful on the go, it tends to get noisy as soon as revs increase. Also, the relatively low fuel efficiency too is not something which can be called praiseworthy.
