Suzuki Katana officially previewed in Malaysia

KUALA LUMPUR: We have been hearing rumors of Suzuki reviving the legendary Katana name for quite some time now. And they turned out to be true when Suzuki launched the 2019 Katana in the UK a few weeks ago. Then we got to know that the bike has reached Malaysia and would be revealed pretty soon. And today, the brand officially previewed the brand-new Katana to Suzuki authorized dealer in Malaysia.

Suzuki has done a fabulous job in keeping the memories of the old Katana intact with the new model. The 2019 Katana comes with a sharp front fairing that is very much responsible for the amazing stance of the motorcycle. We also have the square LED headlights that are divided horizontally into two parts, perhaps for high and low beams. The side turn signals are mounted on the front fairing itself and look pretty nice.

Since the 2019 Suzuki Katana is a semi-faired or semi-naked, however, if you want to call it a motorcycle, it has quite a bunch exposed parts. This is one of the attractive features of the bike. The best-exposed part is definitely its blacked-out 999 cc transverse-four engine which produces 148 hp at 10,000 rpm and 108 Nm at 9,500 rpm. It’s a super smooth engine, and Suzuki has tuned it to suit the character of the bike.

The Suzuki Katana has a single-piece pipe-type handlebar which supposedly provides an upright and comfortable riding position. This allows the rider to thoroughly enjoy the power of the machine and have fun at all times without stressing out. The bike also offers a fully digital instrument cluster that should provide you with more than necessary information.

The rear end of the new Katana is very interesting. Suzuki opted for a tire-hugger mounted license plate holder which allowed it to give the bike a clean tail. It’s something similar to what we have seen on the Ducati Diavel, and it looks great, so we have no complaints here.

As far as the braking performance is concerned, the 2019 Katana comes with Brembo dual front disc brakes and a large rear disc brake with ABS. Other electronic riding aids include a 3-level switchable traction control system.

The 2019 Suzuki Katana looks amazing from every angle. And we are pretty sure it rides the same way as well. In the US market, the buyers can opt for an accessory pack named as the Samurai Accessory Pack that includes a carbon effect mudguard, flyscreen, tank pad, red fairing, engine covers and seat detailing.

Note, all the Katana features and engine configuration mentioned above are of the US-spec model. Though Suzuki Malaysia hasn't revealed any information yet, we are pretty sure the local model to carry most of the specifications.

Suzuki Katana launch date is still to be revealed, we, however, expect it to happen pretty soon. Stay tuned for latest information.
