  • About Ford Malaysia

    Ford has always been considered as a highly regarded automotive manufacturer in the country. Whether it be a passenger car from the 70s and 80s or the ongoing Everest SUV, Ranger pickup, and Escape, the automaker has always maintained a reputation for coming up with good performing, high-quality, and safe vehicles. All the Ford outlets and dealerships are located at strategic locations. They are updated to the ‘Brand at Retail’ standard, and they feature service facilities and processes to meet future tech needs. The brand’s flagship outlet is located in Kuala Lumpur, next to the Federal Highway.

    Ford roots in Malaysia goes back to 1926, a time when the country was still called Malaya. The Ford Motor Company of Malaya came into existence in 1972. With the advent of Malaysia’s New Economic Policy in 1981, 49% of the company’s stake was sold to Pernas Sime Darby. In 1996 direct participation recommenced, and Ford became a 49% stakeholder in Ford Malaysia in 2000. Overall the company has a long history in the country, given its pre-independence presence and post-independence economic and political changes. In 2008, Sime Darby AutoConneXion Sdn Bhd (SDAC) took over from Ford Malaysia as the brand’s sole distributor for all is vehicles in the country.

    Fast forward to today, too meet the demands around 600 workers are employed at the automaker’s Shah Alam plant. Promising global quality vehicles, Ford operating principles, and quality manufacturing standards are applied to the facility. With the focus to reduce cost and driving change, the Ford Malaysia team involves shop-floor empowerment and process stability.

    In December 2019, the new Ford Ranger 2.2L XLT Special Edition was launched, it features several additional features over the regular 2.2 XLT automatic trim. It is powered by a 2.2L TDCi VGT Puma mill mated to a six-speed automatic transmission. At the 2019 Lazada 11.11 Shopping Festival, SDAC launched the limited-edition Ranger Splash. Only 19 units of this pickup were made available. The Ford F-150 Raptor was also made available in the country in January 2019.
