Mercedes Benz EQC Review
Abhishek Katariya says
The Mercedes-Benz EQC is one of the most premium all-electric SUVs one can buy in the market today. Positioned above both EQA and EQB SUVs in the Mercedes-Benz lineup in Malaysia, the EQC is a premium midsize all-electric SUV and the all-electric counterpart of the GLC SUV with significant visual tweaks. The Mercedes-Benz EQC is available in the Malaysian car market in a single fully-loaded trim, with six colour options on offer – Polar White, High Tech Silver, Graphite Grey, Cavansite Blue, Mojave Silver, and Obsidian Black.
Mercedes Benz EQC Interior & Features
The Mercedes-Benz EQC might be lacking the hyper screen which the new-age EQ sedans are getting, but the interior of this all-electric SUV still looks very modern and has an air of futurism to it. The cabin can be chosen in one of the two options of ARTICO man-made leather upholstery available – dual-tone indigo blue and black and dual-tone silk beige and black.
The highlight of the cabin of the EQC has to be the widescreen cockpit with a fully-digital instrument console, media display, and touchpad. The system is home to Mercedes-Benz’s MBUX multimedia system with extended MBUX functions and interior assistant and supports all kinds of smartphone connectivity and voice commands.
The driver’s cockpit also includes a multifunction leather sports steering wheel with gloss black and satin chrome inserts on the spokes and controls. While the top of the dashboard gets soft-touch leather and rose gold inserts and stitching, the front seats and upholstered in black Aberdeen fabric with graphite topstitching.
The cabin of the EQC also includes more features like a head-up display, massaging seats, heated and ventilated front seats, mood-specific ambient lighting, powered front seats, wireless charger, three-zone automatic climate control, touchpad for the infotainment system, premium Burmester audio system, pre-installed infotainment screens at the rear, roller sunblinds and powered tailgate.
EQC Exterior
The Mercedes-Benz EQC has got all the right visual appeal of an all-electric vehicle designed for the modern era, and even for the world of tomorrow. Despite its raised ride height and tall stance, the Mercedes-Benz EQC looks aerodynamic and sleek, which gives it a futuristic appeal.
At the front, the EQC has a very wide fascia, comprising a closed grille with horizontal slats placed in the middle and within a rounded housing. The grille here is surrounded by a satin chrome finish, which in turn is surrounded by a gloss black finish which extends towards the headlamps. The EQC gets high-tech Multibeam all-LED headlamps with integrated daytime running LEDs on their upper edges and over the front grille.
The Mercedes-Benz EQC has a smoothly flowing side profile, with well-contoured door panels which do not have characteristic creases or curves. However, the smooth-looking bulges over the front and rear wheel arches and the nice execution of curves for the roofline go well with its aerodynamic appeal. The EQC gets 20-inch 10-spoke alloy wheels with energy blue decorative elements and a high-sheen finish over them.
At the back, the Mercedes-Benz EQC looks simple and clean, yet elegant, with the Multibeam all-LED lighting setup for the tail lamps and the connecting light bar between them. While the slanted rear windscreen gets a roof-mounted spoiler, the rear bumper here gets heavy black cladding with chrome inserts on their lower corners.
Mercedes Benz EQC Ride & Handling
The Mercedes-Benz EQC might be an SUV given its size and stance, though the lowered ground clearance keeps it grounded with minimal body roll and maximum stability, especially over fast stretches. The EQC is offered with multiple drive modes and suspension settings to vary the driving experience depending on the terrain and speed ranges.
EQC Engine & Fuel Consumption
The Mercedes-Benz EQC comes standard with two asynchronous three-phase AC motors, one each on the front and rear axles. The combined power and torque outputs produced by this dual-motor setup are 408 bhp and 760 Nm, respectively, with the EQC available with a single-speed transmission and 4MATIC all-wheel drive system with variable torque split. The EQC has a claimed top speed of 180 kmph and 0-100 kmph sprint timing of 5.1 seconds. The 80 kWh battery of the EQC has a claimed range of 420 km, which could have been more given the size of the battery.
Mercedes Benz EQC Braking & Safety
The Mercedes-Benz EQC is heavily loaded with safety features, with some of the sophisticated ones including adaptive cruise control, lane keeping assist, lane tracing assist, active park assist with 360-degree parking camera and Parktronic, front and rear parking sensors, airbags all around and more.
EQC Verdict
Like all the offerings under Mercedes-Benz’s EQ brand, the EQC all-electric SUV is a motoring approach for a cleaner tomorrow, and that is evident in its high-tech features and powertrain, futuristic styling and refined driving experience.
