Mercedes Benz EQS

While the exterior design of the Mercedes-Benz EQS is extremely aerodynamic and clean, the interior can be best described as the best window of the future we have seen in any production-spec car. The dashboard here looks extremely futuristic with a spaceship-like appearance, thanks to the humongous 56-inch Hyperscreen spread across the width of the dashboard. This hyper screen includes a 12.3-inch full-TFT instrument console, a 17.7-inch touchscreen infotainment system and an additional 12.3-inch touchscreen for the co-passenger side. The hyper screen operates on the latest version of the MBUX system, which also includes a head-up display above the instrument console.

The cabin of the EQS doesn’t get any physical buttons, even for the AC controls, and in place of them, the car gets touch-sensitive controls all over. While they look fancy, they are not too user-friendly in their operation while on the move. The EQS also gets the best version of the ‘Hey Mercedes’ voice assistant, which can control almost all the functions of the car. Also, while the cabin is wrapped in plush white leather with supremely comfortable seats, getting inside the car can be a slight struggle, especially for taller and elderly people. Also, the headroom and width of the car are at a premium, making it best suitable only for two full-sized adults.

Measuring 5216mm long, 1926mm wide and 1512mm tall, the Mercedes-Benz EQS has a very striking road presence of a large car, which is further amplified by the excellently-executed aerodynamics in its overall look. The shorter overhangs and the long wheelbase further make the Mercedes-Benz EQS look even longer than it is. The extremely aerodynamic design of the EQS gives it a drag coefficient of just 0.2, the lowest in any production-spec car in the world.

At the front, the Mercedes-Benz EQS has a wide V-shaped front fascia comprising of a closed gloss-black grille, large triangular-shaped all-LED headlamps and sleek daytime running LEDs which blend in with the long LED bar over the closed grille. The fin-like air dams on the corners of the front bumper look inspired by the S-Class and have both aesthetic and functional purposes for the car. The overall roof of the car has a rounded appeal, which makes it look even more beautiful and very coupe-like. Even the large 21-inch alloy wheels, flush-type door handles and door-mounted rear-view mirrors add a style statement to the car.

At the back, the Mercedes-Benz EQS has a sloping fastback design, which opens fully to reveal the large 610-litre boot space. The rear profile of the sedan looks sleek and clean with two-part triangular LED tail lamps joined by a thin LED light bar across the width of the boot lid. The EQS has a closed front bonnet which can be accessed only by the technicians authorized at Mercedes-Benz, though if you want to have an access to the wiper washer fluid box, it can be accessed through the flap in the left-side front fender.

The Mercedes-Benz EQS is a fairly large car in all sorts of dimensions, but despite its size and weight, it is quite nimble to drive. The steering is too light in its feedback, but it manages to control the body roll and is decently responsive during quick directional changes. Like a traditional Mercedes-Benz saloon, the EQS offers a well-cushioned ride quality with a host of suspension adjustments on offer.

Powering the Mercedes-Benz EQS is a rear-mounted single motor setup, which produces 330 PS of maximum power output and 568 Nm of maximum torque output. The electric motor allows the EQS to reach the 100 kmph mark from a standstill in 5.9 seconds and reach an electronically-limited top speed of 200 kmph. The 107.8 kWh battery of the EQS is the largest battery used in a production-spec Mercedes-Benz car to date. Suitable to be charged with output levels up to 200 kW, the battery returns a claimed range of 782 km.

The EQS is the best all-electric luxury saloon from Mercedes-Benz on offer, so it is pretty obvious that it packs all the possible safety systems. It gets active distance assist, active steering assist, traffic sign assist, active lane keeping assist, active lane change assist, active emergency stop assist, attention assist, active brake assist with cross-traffic function, active blind spot assist and exit warning function, and evasive steering assist. It also gets intelligent park pilot and drive pilot on offer.
