2021 VW Atlas with Basecamp package clicked in California
KUALA LUMPUR: In April 2020, Volkswagen introduced the Basecamp package for the refreshed 2012 Atlas SUV. Named after the Atlas concept vehicle, the said styling kit makes the 3-row SUV look rugged and off-road ready. In it are included extra plastic cladding along with other styling bits and a special set of wheels and tyres to complete the look.
Recently, a Motor1.com reader spotted a VW Atlas with the Basecamp package in California. He was kind enough to click a picture and share it with the publication. And as expected, the package makes the car look so much more macho, it surely is more than adding some subtle tweaks.
All the parts of the Basecamp package are supplied to VW by a rugged body kit company called Air Design. Part of this $2500 styling pack is a bumper guard, large fender flares, and silver trim for the rear valance and rocker panels. Customers can buy the entire package or select individual items according to their liking. However, the Basecamp fender badge is only available with the whole set.
There are a few extra elements available with the Basecamp package like the cool-looking 17-inch Fifteen52 Traverse MX wheels for $250 each available with either Radiant Silver or Froste Graphite finish and all-terrain tyres whose price goes up to $800 (depending on the brand). With all the extra elements the Basecamp package price will go up to $4000.
Volkswagen is offering the Basecamp package for all 2021 Atlas variants, except for the R-Line model. The said kit is only recommended for cars equipped with a trailer hitch which is not available with the smaller Altas Cross Sport.
