The BYD Shark is the brand’s first pickup truck, which made its global debut at the 2024 Beijing Auto Show. Representing BYD’s commitment to diversify its product range and capture a bigger share of the global EV market, the model was previewed at the 2025 Bangkok Motor Show in Thailand.
BYD Shark: Key highlights
- Built on BYD's DMO platform, the Chinese pickup truck measures 5,457 mm in length, 1,917 mm in width, and 1,925 mm in height.
- The vehicle has a towing capacity of 2,500 kg, and a payload capacity is up to 835 kg. The truck bed has a volume of 1450 litres.
- The Thai-spec model is powered by a Super Hybrid drivetrain comprising a 1.5-litre 4-cylinder turbo engine and two electric motors. While the front motor produces 231 PS and 310 Nm, the rear one is tuned to deliver 204 PS and 340 Nm. Together, the setup kicks out a total output of 436 PS and 650 Nm.
- In terms of performance, the BYD Shark runs from zero to 100 kmph in 5.7 seconds.
- The motors are fed by a 29.58 kWh blade battery pack, which offers an electric-only range of up to 100 km (NEDC cycle). The combined driving range, backed by its 60-litre fuel tank, is estimated at 800 km.
- The BYD pickup is loaded with several advanced features, including LED headlamps, 18-inch alloy wheels, a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster, a 15.6-inch rotatable infotainment unit, a dual-zone climate control, powered front seats, seven airbags, and advanced driver assistance bits.
