Hyundai Kona Electric and Nexo might be showcased at KLIMS 2018

KUALA LUMPUR: Courtesy of an avid reader of automobile blogs and industry news, we now have some images of Hyundai cars being carried on a transporter in the area of Glenmarie, Malaysia. The images show us a couple of SUVs from the Korean manufacturer.

Out of the two SUVs spotted being carried on a transporter, there was a Hyundai Kona Electric and the other one was the Nexo. We can make out that the Kona was in the electric form by the badging on the tailgate.

However, if you have not heard much about the Hyundai Nexo, let's begin by saying that it is not in its concept form currently. It was first put on display at the CES (Consumer Electronic Show) and is an electric vehicle powered by hydrogen fuel-cell. It does not use any of the shared platforms and is based on a dedicated setup. It has a big battery up to its sleeves, much bigger than the Tucson’s FCEV and has a driving range of 535 kilometres (426 kilometres for the Tucson).

On the other hand, the Hyundai Kona Electric is one of the most popular mass-market zero-emission cars on a global platform and claims a long driving range of 470 kilometres with the help of 64 kWh battery pack. The battery-powered engine under the hood of the car can make 204 PS of power along with 395 Nm of torque. Apart from this, there is also a basic version that is fuelled by a 39.2 kWh battery pack and can make 135 PS of power.

Now the point is, the automobile followers in Malaysia are very much used to seeing cars that are not actually bound for the country and are used for internal training purpose only. But since we have the KLIMS (Kuala Lumpur International Motor Show) 2018 up, we can expect Hyundai to exhibit these two cars as a showcase for its technological development.

However, since the Hyundai Nexo and Kona Electric are expected to be the show cars only, we will have the fourth generation Santa Fe (to be displayed at KLIMS) launched in the country soon.
