Proton’s sales soar to new heights in Brunei

  • Proton sold a total of 789 cars in Brunei in 2023, which represents 87% growth over the 422 units sold in 2022. This remarkable achievement elevated the brand to fifth place in the overall sales rankings in the country with a 5.4% market share of the Total-Industry-Volume (TIV) of 14,640 units.

    Proton X50

The best-selling Proton model in Brunei is none other than the X50. The company delivered a total of 476 units during the year, constituting 60% of its total sales. With that, the SUV ranked third among B-segment SUVs in the country.

Proton’s Director of International Sales Division, Steven Xu said, “The popularity of the Proton X50 in Brunei can be attributed to clear communications about its value and features, as well as our brand equity. Proton worked closely with our importers, PAD Motors, to promote the competitive price and superior features the model had over its rivals while also offering finance packages to make ownership easier. This was then bolstered by our on-ground activities to promote the Proton brand, which was assisted by the success of the X50 in Malaysia that helped build the confidence of Brunei customers.”

    Proton X90

Other Proton models that are on sale in Brunei are Persona and Iriz. These cars secured the sixth and eighth positions in their respective segments, while the Proton X90 claimed the seventh spot in its segment.

Looking ahead, the Malaysia-born automaker aims to launch the S70 in Brunei by the end of this month, making it the first export international market to receive the sedan.

    Proton S70

Steven Xu said, “For 2024, Proton is confident of achieving more growth in Brunei. With continued strong interest in the Proton X50 and other models as well as the introduction of the Proton S70, we target to break through the 1,000 units barrier at the end of the year.”
