The reveal comes just days after BYD launched the refreshed Atto 3 Evo, which raises the bar considerably in this segment with a rear-wheel drive variant, 308 PS, up to 510 km of WLTP range, and 220 kW fast charging. Proton is wasting no time in responding.
Proton eMas 7 Premium Plus: What’s new?
No exterior redesign is on the cards. The new variant carries the same silhouette as the existing model, which means this update is focused squarely on what is under the skin.
The headline change is a new, larger 68.39 kWh Aegis short blade LFP battery, up from the current Premium variant's 60.22 kWh unit. This is the same battery upgrade that has already been rolled out to the e.MAS 7's overseas twin, the Geely EX5, in Australia and Thailand. The result is a meaningful range increase from 410 km to 450 km on the WLTP cycle, a 40 km improvement that makes a real difference for Malaysian buyers planning intercity trips.

DC charging remains at 115 kW, with a 30 to 80 percent top-up achievable in around 20 minutes. AC charging holds at 11 kW, with a full 10 to 100 percent charge taking approximately seven hours.
New features introduced on the Premium Plus include dual front massage seats, a powered front passenger seat with 4-way adjustment and memory function, as well as an integrated passenger leg rest for enhanced comfort during longer journeys.

How the Proton e.Mas 7 Premium Plus fits into the current lineup
The existing e.MAS 7 range comprises two variants. The entry Prime uses a 49.52 kWh battery for a WLTP range of 345 km, while the Premium steps up to 60.22 kWh for 410 km. The new larger-battery variant slots in above the Premium as a new range-topper, bringing the e.MAS 7 lineup to three options.
Photo from ProtonGiven that the e.MAS 7 is locally assembled at Proton's plant in Tanjung Malim; the pricing remains competitive within the existing range structure.
The timing of this update could not be more important for Proton e.MAS. The brand has established itself as Malaysia's number one EV brand since its 2024 launch, but the competitive landscape is shifting fast. A 450 km WLTP range in a locally assembled package would be a genuinely strong answer to the renewed challenge from BYD and the growing list of Chinese EV rivals entering the market.
Whether the range improvement and added features are enough to maintain the e.MAS 7's lead is a question this new variant is here to answer.
