KLIMS 2026: Proton showcases new hybrid engine, modified X50, and more

KUALA LUMPUR: Alongside launching the new e.MAS 7 Premium Plus, Proton also showcased its future mobility vision at the Kuala Lumpur International Mobility Show 2026, under the theme “PROTON AHEAD: Intelligence That Connects People.” The display highlights the automaker’s latest technologies, aimed at offering smarter, smoother, and more efficient mobility options. 

Proton Intelligent Mobility Zone

At the Proton Intelligent Mobility Zone, visitors can explore the latest advanced systems developed by the automaker. These include - 

• Next-gen HEV system
• Advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS)
• i-GT Engine
• Proton Electrical & Electronic Architecture (EEA)
• Proton Modular Vehicle Cockpit Concept
• Proton IHU Smart Cockpit

These displays highlight how the national automaker is committed to strengthening its technology foundation across safety, powertrain efficiency, vehicle architecture, and connected in-car experiences.

Proton Dedicated Hybrid Engine

As mentioned above, Proton unveiled a new HEV drivetrain, called Dedicated Hybrid Engine (DHE),  during the event. It is a hybrid-adapted form of the 1.5-litre engine that powers the brand’s several pure ICE vehicles.  

The engine delivers a maximum power of 82 kW and a peak torque of 136 Nm, with a 14-to-1 compression ratio and RON95 fuel compatibility. It supports Euro 6d/China 6b emission standards and achieves up to 46.5% peak thermal efficiency, with the help of technologies like Atkinson-cycle combustion, water-cooled EGR, and a smart cooling electric water pump.

The system is combined with the Dedicated Hybrid Transmission, which features a P1 for engine starting and power support and a P3 dual-motor system, serving as the main driving motor and supporting energy recovery during deceleration. 

Developed to support a quieter and smoother drive under suitable conditions, the system features an EV Mode, where the vehicle can move using electric power under suitable conditions. 

Modified Proton X50 display at KLIMS 2026

Alongside its technology displays, Proton also presented a modified Proton X50 at the show, featuring an aggressive body kit and blacked-out bits. While there is no official confirmation yet, this dressed-up SUV suggests that a new Sport Edition of the brand’s “King of SUVs” could be on the cards.
