Toyota Malaysia sells 36,200 cars in six months juggling petrol, hybrid and EV all at once

KUALA LUMPUR: UMW Toyota Motor (UMWT) has closed off the second quarter of 2026 with more than 20,800 vehicles sold, after shifting over 7,300 units in June.

KEY TAKEAWAYS

  • How many cars did Toyota sell in Malaysia in Q2 2026?

UMW Toyota Motor sold more than 20,800 units in the second quarter of 2026, including over 7,300 units in June alone.
  • What are Toyota Malaysia's total sales for 2026 so far?

Year-to-date sales as of June 2026 stand at above 36,200 units.
  • That puts Toyota's year-to-date tally in Malaysia at above 36,200 units, keeping the brand firmly in the fight among non-national marques while Perodua and Proton continue to dominate overall volume.

The numbers land in a quarter where Toyota Malaysia had plenty going on. The company rolled out its first proper wave of fully electric models here, with the bZ4X (priced at RM220,000), the Urban Cruiser BEV and the Hilux BEV all arriving within the same window.

On top of that, the all-new Yaris Cross joined the line-up in both petrol and hybrid forms, giving Malaysian buyers another option in the crowded compact SUV space against the likes of the Honda HR-V and Proton X50.

UMWT frames all of this under Toyota's Multi-Pathway Electrification Strategy, which is essentially the company's way of saying it is not forcing anyone into an EV.

Petrol, hybrid or full electric, the pitch is that buyers pick whatever suits their driving and their budget, and Toyota will have something on sale in Malaysia to match.

"Our second quarter performance reflects continued customer confidence in Toyota's product line-up and the choices we are bringing to market. Our commitment goes beyond introducing new products. We are focused on building an ecosystem that gives customers greater choice, confidence and convenience throughout their ownership journey. By combining our Multi-Pathway approach with innovations that showcase the future of mobility and initiatives that strengthen everyday ownership, we continue to deliver solutions that are meaningful, dependable and relevant for Malaysians," said Datuk Ravindran K., President of UMW Toyota Motor.

Beyond the metal, UMWT is also leaning on Toyota Extra Mile, its ownership programme built around six pillars: Extra Rewards, Extra Protection, Extra Convenience, Extra Peace of Mind, Extra Security and Extra Care.

In practice, that covers things like loyalty rewards, vehicle protection, easier servicing access and customer support, the kind of after-sales backing that has long been part of the reason Malaysians keep coming back to the brand.

With half of 2026 done and dusted, Toyota Malaysia is on pace for another strong year. The bigger question is how quickly its new BEVs pick up traction in a Malaysian EV market that is currently being shaped by far cheaper Chinese rivals.
