Major auto events of June 2022: SST discount ended, Kia EV6 launched, 2022 Perodua Alza, Honda HR-V, Toyota Veloz details out, and more

This month was jam-packed with big events one after another. From Honda revealing the details of the all-new HR-V to Perodua and Toyota teasing their upcoming MPV twins - there was so much that went down. Add to that were some big-ticket EV and performance car launches, and the end of the SST exemption. In case you missed out on any of that, here’s a quick monthly wrap.  

Kia EV6 launched: The highly-anticipated Kia EV6 has finally arrived in the Malaysian market this month. The imported EV is offered in a single GT-Line AWD variant, priced at RM 300,668. The driving range stands at 506 km (on the WLTP test cycle). 

Mazda MX-30 launched: Another electric car that was long-awaited in Malaysia, the Mazda MX-30, is also open for bookings now. There are two variants on offer - Mid and High, with the price starting at RM 198,780. The deliveries of this Japanese EV are scheduled to commence in Q4, 2022.

2022 Mazda CX-8 goes on sale: Mazda has also launched the updated version of its popular three-row SUV, the CX-8. The SUV gets a new turbocharged petrol 2.5 T High Plus AWD variant, along with some other enhancements and minor aesthetic tweaks. The price ranges between RM 177,674 and RM 212,225.

Maserati MC20 launched: Maserati MC20, the supercar which marked the brand’s return to the racing world after a long hiatus, has finally made its way to the local shores in June. The MC20 price in Malaysia starts at RM 1,078,000 (before taxes).

Mercedes-AMG GT Black Series arrived: Another supercar that hit the local market is the new Mercedes-AMG GT Black Series. Priced at RM 3 million, the available 13 units of this German beast have already been allocated to the Malaysians.

Locally-assembled Mercedes-AMG cars launched: Mercedes-Benz also launched two more AMG cars in Malaysia this month. These are locally assembled GLA 35 and A35 sedan, priced at RM 345,048 and RM 325,090, respectively. The former gets a ​​bigger engine while the latter comes with new tech features. 

Mercedes GLC 300e and GLB 35 arrived: The German automaker has also started retailing the GLC 300e plug-in hybrid and new Mercedes-AMG GLB 35 in the local market. They are priced at RM 374,074 and RM 392,582, respectively.

2022 Jaguar XF and F-Pace launched: Jaguar Malaysia launched the updated versions of the XF and F-Pace this month. Both are on offer in a single variant, which is 2.0L R-Dynamic, priced at RM 498,800 and RM 598,800, respectively.

2022 Honda HR-V bookings open: Honda Malaysia also started accepting the bookings for the all-new HR-V, followed by special customer preview sessions conducted at different authorised Honda dealerships nationwide. The 2022 Honda HR-V will be offered in four trims - S, E, V, and RS.

2022 Perodua Alza details revealed: After a long wait, the bookings of the second-gen Alza started this month. It is on offer in three trims namely X, H and AV. The tentative price ranges between RM 62,000 and RM 75,000.

Toyota Veloz bookings started: The mechanical twin of the 2022 Perodua Alza i.e. Toyota Veloz has also been teased ahead of the launch. The bookings of the MPV are open for a sole 1.5 A/T variant, priced at RM 95,000 (tentative).

2022 BMW X5 xDrive45e launched: The upgraded version of the X5 xDrive45e plug-in hybrid went on sale this month at RM 457,498. It benefits from some new equipment like BMW Laserlight headlights, rear side airbags, etc.

2022 Nissan Serena previewed: Nissan Malaysia has also previewed the latest version of its top-selling MPV, the Serena, ahead of launch. It will be available in two variants - Highway Star and Premium Highway Star Package, with an estimated price range of RM 150,000 - RM 165,000.

2022 Kia Carnival CKD bookings open: Bookings of the locally-assembled Kia Carnival are now underway at the brand’s AZ Master Motor dealership. The CKD model will be available in seven- and eight-seater versions, estimatedly priced between RM 235,000 and RM 260,000. 

2022 Isuzu D-Max X-Terrain updated: The popular pickup truck, the Isuzu D-Max, gets an update in the form of new features like an around-view monitor, LED welcome light, and Qi wireless charging. It is now priced at RM 146,938.40.

2022 Proton X70 launched: Proton's top-selling C-segment SUV, the X70, has also benefited from a handful of cosmetic changes and a new 1.5-litre engine. The latest SUV comes in 5 variants, priced between RM 93,900 and RM 121,800.

Maserati Grecale previewed: We also enjoyed the preview of the Maserati Grecale this month. The pre-bookings of the Italian SUV are underway in Malaysia with the launch scheduled to happen later this year.

Lamborghini Huracan STO arrived: The road-legal iteration of the Huracan GT3 race car, the Huracan STO, also landed on the Malaysia shores in June. Priced at RM 1.48 million, the supercar is powered by a mighty 5.2-litre naturally-aspirated V10 engine.

Six Ducati bikes launched: Ducati launched a total of six new models in Malaysia this month. The list includes - Multistrada V2 S, Scrambler 1100 Tribute Pro, Panigale V2 Bayliss, Scrambler Urban Motard, Streetfighter V4 SP, and Streetfighter V2.

Two Harley-Davidson bikes launched: The Malaysian enthusiasts also enjoyed the launch of two Harley-Davidson motorcycles in June. These are - Low Rider S and Low Rider ST, carrying a starting price tag of RM 115,900.

2022 Yamaha YZF-R15M goes on sale: Hong Leong Yamaha Motor has introduced the all-new YZF-R15M in Malaysia today. The latest model features a new electronic pack, comprising traction control and quick-shifter as standard, which complements the dual-channel ABS. The bike retails for RM 14,998.

International updates

The highlighted car reveals that happened in the global market in June 2022 were the Hyundai Ioniq 6, the 2023 Kia Seltos, Volkswagen ID. Aero, 2023 Lexus RX, 2023 Mercedes-Benz GLC, 2023 Bentley Continental S, Polestar 3, 2022 Mahindra Scorpio N, BMW M3 Touring, 2023 Peugeot 408, 2023 Nissan Altima, Lamborghini Countach LPI 800-4, and more.
